Nobel Prize committee presented the Nobel Physics Prize 2018 award to one half to Arthur Ashkin and the other half jointly to Gérard Mourou and Donna Strickland.

They received this prestigious award for their discovery for groundbreaking inventions in the field of laser physics.

The Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to a woman for the first time in 55 years, and for only the third time in its history.

Donna Strickland became the third female Nobel laureate in physics after Maria Goeppert Mayer in 1963 and Marie Curie in 1903.
