1. Government developed 17 sites in 12 clusters as Iconic Tourism Sites
  • The Ministry of Tourism has identified 17 sites in 12 clusters in the country for development as Iconic Tourism Sites namely Taj Mahal & Fatehpur Sikri (Uttar Pradesh), Ajanta & Ellora (Maharashtra), Humayun’s Tomb, Red Fort & Qutub Minar (Delhi), Colva (Goa), Amer Fort (Rajasthan), Somnath & Dholavira (Gujarat), Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh), Hampi (Karnataka), Mahabalipuram (Tamil Nadu), Kaziranga (Assam), Kumarakom (Kerala) and Mahabodhi Temple (Bihar).

2. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh approves enhancement of Number of Awards and Cash Incentives to NCC Cadets
  • Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh has approved the increase in the number of awards given to the cadets of National Cadet Corps (NCC) from the existing 143 to 243 as also the cash incentives in various categories.
  • NCC cadets are now entitled to receive two Raksha Mantri Padaks carrying cash incentive of Rs 30,000 as against one Padak of value Rs 20,000 earlier, four Raksha Mantri Commendations of Rs 20,000 each in place three Commendations of value Rs 15,000 each earlier. Shri Rajnath Singh has also approved a substantial increase in DG’s commendations from the existing 102 to 200.

3. Deadline for filing income tax returns extended to 31 August
  • The government extended the due date for filing income tax returns by individuals for financial year 2019-20 by a month till August 31.
  • Individuals, including salaried taxpayers, and entities - who do not need to get their accounts
  • audited - were required to file their income tax returns for fiscal 2018-19 (Assessment Year 2019-20) by July 31, 2019.

4. Vande Bharat Express Successful Completes Trial Run On Delhi-Katra Route
  • Vande Bharat Express Delhi to Katra: Indian Railways’ Northern Railway zone has successfully conducted the Confirmatory Oscillograph Car Runs (COCR) trial of the new Vande Bharat Express (Train 18) on the Delhi-Katra route.
  • Indian Railways' gift to the devotees of Mata Vaishno Devi is expected to run from next month, the train would reach Katra from New Delhi in 8 hours.

5. Govt committee recommends ban on cryptocurrency in India
  • An inter-ministerial committee (IMC) headed by Finance Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg has recommended heavy penalties of up to Rs 25 crore ($3.63 million) and a jail term up to 10 years for anyone who mines, generates, holds, sells, transfers or issues cryptocurrency.
  • The panel's recommendations along with the draft legislation, Banning of Cryptocurrency & Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill, 2019, was put up on the website of the Department of Economic Affairs.

6. SBI Life Q1 net profit up 5% to Rs 372 crore
  • SBI Life Insurance posted a 5 percent year-on-year (YoY) growth in its June quarter (Q1) net profit at Rs 372 crore.
  • The company's net profit during the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year ended March 2019 was Rs 354.31 crore.

  • The Windies Cricket announced, West Indies have recalled T20 specialists Sunil Narine and Kieron Pollard in their Twenty20 International (T20I) squad for the first-two matches against India, starting in Florida on August 3.

9. Virat Kohli retains number one spot in ICC Test Rankings
  • India skipper Virat Kohli has retained his number one position in the latest ICC Test batsmen's rankings.
  • New Zealand's Kane Williamson (913) is second and Cheteshwar Pujara (881) third in the rankings.
