28th BASIC Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change held in Sao Paulo, Brazil


Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar represented India for 28th BASIC Ministerial Meeting 2019 on Climate Change.

The Ministerial meeting was held in the run-up to the UNFCC Conference of Parties (COP-25) meet to be held later in the year from 2nd to 13th December.

 The 28th BASIC Ministerial Meeting on Climate Change was held in Brasília and São Paulo, Brazil, on 14 and 16 August 2019.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Ricardo Salles, Minister of the Environment of Brazil and attended by Mr. XIE Zhenhua, Special Representative for Climate Change Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, Ms. Barbara Creecy, Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries of the Republic of South Africa, and Mr. Prakash Javadekar, Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Republic of India.

The BASIC Ministers expressed their concern for climate change and its adverse effects. They reaffirmed their commitment to the successful implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change-UNFCCC, its Kyoto Protocol and its Paris Agreement, based on the recognition of the needs and special circumstances of developing countries........Read More


Two-day International Conference on Teacher Education by NCTE held in New Delhi

The Union Minister of Human Resource Development Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' inaugurated the International Conference titled 'Journey of Teacher Education: Local to Global' in New Delhi.

The two-day event is being organized by the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) as part of the silver jubilee celebration of its establishment in 1995.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development will be launching the world's biggest project for teacher training named NISHTHA (National Initiative on School Teachers Head Holistic Advancement).On August 22, 2019, More than 42 lakh teachers will be trained through this mission.

This initiative is in recognition of the fact that India cannot truly progress until and unless the skills of teachers are periodically upgraded. We have also mapped 15 lakh schools across the country on various platforms. In addition, 19,000 teacher training institutes in India have been mapped and put on Google Earth.


About National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE)

NCTE was established on 17th August 1995 and was tasked with achieving planned and coordinated development of teacher education system throughout the country and maintenance of norms and standards therein. NCTE also serves as an advisory body to Central and State Governments to ensure maintenance of standards and quality in Teacher Education.

Overview: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Bhutan

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, made a State Visit to the Kingdom of Bhutan from 17-18 August 2019, at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dr.LotayTshering. This was among the first bilateral visits by Prime Minister Shri Modi after assuming office for the second time in May 2019.

On arrival at Paro Airport, Prime Minister Modi was welcomed by Prime Minister Dr.Tshering, members of the Cabinet and senior government officials with a ceremonial guard of honour. 

The Prime Ministers Modi and Dr.Tshering formally inaugurated the recently completed 720 MW Mangdechhu Hydroelectric Plant.

The Prime Ministers Modi formally launched the facility of use of Indian-issued RuPay cards in Bhutan, which would greatly facilitate Indian travellers to Bhutan by reducing the need to carry cash, while at the same time boosting the Bhutanese economy and further integrating the economies of both countries.
