Government approves Rs 4432.10 crore of additional Central assistance to Odisha, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh

The Government of India approved additional central assistance of Rs. 4432.10 crore to three States from National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) - Rs. 3338.22 crore to Odisha for Cyclone Fani, Rs 1029.39 crore to Karnataka for drought and Rs 64.49 crore to Himachal Pradesh for avalanches and hailstorm.

The High Level Committee (HLC), chaired by the Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah, met in New Delhi on 19th August 2019 to consider additional central assistance to three states, which were affected by drought (rabi) of 2018-19, avalanches, hailstorms, landslides and cyclone ‘Fani’ during 2019.

This additional assistance is over and above the funds released by the Centre to the States in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) already placed at the disposal of States.

During 2018-19, Centre had released Rs 9,658 crore to all states and during 2019-20, till date Centre has released Rs 6,104 crore to 24 States from SDRF.......Read More


Chandrayaan-2 precisely inserted in defined lunar orbit: ISRO Chairman

Chandrayaan-2: The second moon mission of India, the Chandrayaan-2 has been precisely inserted in defined orbits. It reached in defined lunar orbit at 09.02 am on 20th August 2019. 

This was stated by the Chairman, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Dr K. Sivan, while addressing a press conference after the Lunar Orbit Insertion of Chandrayaan-2, in Bengaluru.

ISRO aims for successful landing at 1.55 AM on 7th September. The soft landing will be near the lunar South Pole. According to the ISRO that the next major event will be on 2nd September when the lander will be separated from the orbiter.

The Chairman said that ISRO is confident about its landing mission. ISRO has done enough stimulations of soft landing, he added. Chandrayyan-2 will undergo four more manoeuvres.

The first manoeuvre will be tomorrow, followed by subsequent manoeuvres on 28th August, 30th August and 1st September.

This is ISRO’s second moon mission after Chandrayaan-1 in the year 2008. Chandrayaan-2 was launched from Sriharikota on 22nd July this year. It carries an orbiter, ‘Vikram’ lander and ‘Pragyan’ rover........Read More


9th Session of India-Kenya Joint Trade Committee Held in New Delhi


The Indian delegation was led by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Railways, Piyush Goyal. The Kenyan delegation was led by Peter Munya, Minister of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives, Government of the Republic of Kenya.

The JTC is an ideal framework for trade and economic expansion between the two countries and reaffirmed their commitments to deepen the trade and economic ties further.

In 2018-19 India’s top items of exports were petroleum products, drug formulations, biological and industrial machinery for dairy, paper, paper board and products, plastic raw materials, two and three-wheelers, iron and steel, manmade yarn, fabrics made-ups, books, publications and printing, electric machinery and equipment. On the import side, it was inorganic chemicals, pulses, coffee, drug formulations, biologicals, copper and products made of copper, wood products, aluminium, products of aluminium, Tea and finished leather. Both sides stressed the need to enhance trade relations and also to diversify the trade basket.

During the season, Kenya and India signed Important Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) /bilateral Agreements like the revised Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA), bilateral agreement on exemption of visa for holders of Diplomatic passports, MoU on defence cooperation, MoU on Cooperation in the field of standardization and knowledge sharing between Bureau of Indian Standards and Bureau of Kenya Standards........Read More


Coast Guards of India and Sri Lanka agree to strengthen co-operation

The Indian Coast Guard held a High-Level Meeting (HLM) with the Sri Lanka Coast Guard at Coast Guard Headquarters.

The Indian side was led by Director General, Coast Guard K Natarajan, while the Sri Lankan delegation was headed by Rear Admiral Samantha Wimalathunge.

The meeting took place under the provisions of the MoU signed between the two sides for the establishment of a collaborative relationship to combat transnational illegal activities at sea and develop regional co-operation.

During the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen co-operation in addressing a spectrum of maritime issues concerning safety and security.


National Conference of Tourism Ministers concludes successfully in New Delhi

The one-day National Conference of Tourism Ministers concluded successfully in New Delhi. Organized by the Union Ministry of Tourism, it was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Tourism & Culture (Independent Charge), Prahlad Singh Patel.

The conference was attended by State Tourism Ministers of 19 States, Secretaries of Tourism and senior officials from the States and Union Territories (UTs) who deliberated on various issues related to the development and promotion of Tourism.
