RBI imposes fine on 9 commercial Banks for non-compliance relating to reporting of frauds

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in exercise of the powers conferred under various sections of the Banking Regulations Act,1949 has imposed a penalty on nine commercial banks for violations of norms including delay on the reporting of fraud in the account of Kingfisher Airlines in case of two lenders.

The RBI imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 crore on Oriental Bank of Commerce, it slapped a fine of Rs 1 crore each on Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, UCO Bank and United Bank of India. Bank of Baroda, Corporation Bank, Federal Bank, Jammu & Kashmir Bank, Punjab National Bank and State Bank of India have been fined Rs 50 lakh each.


Noel Quinn named as the new HSBC’s interim CEO

Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Corporation (HSBC) bank announced that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of HSBC John Flint steps down from his post after 1.5years.

Noel Quinn, 57, the head of its Global Commercial Banking unit will hold the role of interim CEO, HSBC said in a statement.

Veteran Gujarati journalist Kanti Bhatt passed away in Mumbai

Veteran Gujarati journalist and columnist Kanti Bhatt died in Mumbai at the age of 88 after a long illness. He was born on July 15, 1931, Zanzmer village in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat.

He had done his Bachelor of Commerce from the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (Vadodara).

 Bhatt started his journalism career in the late 1960s.
