Home Minister Amit Shah and Singapore Home Minister meeting held in New Delhi

The Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah and the Minister for Home Affairs and Law of Singapore, Mr. K. Shanmugam met in New Delhi. Both leaders discussed bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest during the meeting.

The two leaders also exchanged views and concerns on the challenges posed by terrorism and extremism. They agreed to strengthen the existing bilateral institutional mechanisms on security issues.

Both sides also agreed to enhance cooperation in dealing with trans-national organized crimes including drug trafficking and economic offences.

Indian Naval Ships Visit to Laem Chabang, Thailand

As part of Indian Navy's Overseas Deployment to South East Asia and Western Pacific, Indian Navy ships Sahyadri and Kiltan are making a port call at Laem Chabang, Bangkok from 31 Aug – 03 Sep 19.

The ships are part of the Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet under the Operational Command of Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, based at Visakhapatnam. The port call is a demonstration of India's warm ties with Thailand.

Indian Ships Sahyadri and Kiltan are the latest, indigenously designed and built multi-role Guided Missile Stealth Frigate and Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette respectively.

The two ships are equipped with a versatile array of weapons and sensors, can carry multi-role helicopters and represent the ‘coming of age’ of India’s warship building capabilities.

During the port call, there would be professional interactions between personnel of both the navies, official calls and interaction with dignitaries of the Royal Thai Navy.

Lt Gen MM Naravane assumes appointment of VCOAS

Lt Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane assumed the charge of Vice Chief of the Army Staff on 01 Sep 2019.

He succeeds Lt Gen Devraj Anbu who after an illustrious career, superannuated on 31 Aug 2019. Before this, the General Officer was heading the Eastern Command of the Indian Army.

Lt Gen Naravane is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy. He was commissioned into the 7th Battalion, The Sikh Light Infantry Regiment in Jun 1980.


Major General Joyce Gladys Roach takes over as ADG, MNS 

Major General Joyce Gladys Roach has assumed charge of the post of Additional Director General, Military Nursing Service (MNS).

Prior to her appointment as ADG, MNS, Major General Roach was holding the post of Principal Matron, Army Hospital Research & Referral, the apex quaternary care hospital of the Armed Forces. She was promoted to the rank of Major General on June 1, 2019.

Major General Roach was commissioned into MNS on December 30, 1981. She is an alumnus of Command Hospital Air Force, Bangalore. She pursued midwifery training from Military Hospital Jabalpur, completed her Class I OT course from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune in 1988 and B. Sc. (N) from IGNOU in 2004.

Major General Roach has an experience of more than 37 years during which she held many coveted appointments both in the field of clinical nursing as well as administration.

She has served in various Armed Forces Hospitals including Counter Insurgency Areas in Northern Command and is acclaimed for her excellent Operation Theatre Manager skills.


Government Appoints 5 new Governors

The President of India is pleased to make the following appointments/ changes:-
  • Kalraj Mishra, Governor of Himachal Pradesh is transferred and appointed as Governor of Rajasthan
  • Bhagat Singh Koshyari as Governor of Maharashtra
  • Bandaru Dattatraya as Governor of Himachal Pradesh
  • Arif Mohammed Khan as Governor of Kerala
  • Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan as Governor of Telangana
