1. Government set up Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for the first time in Tripura
  • The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has notified the setting up of the first ever Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Tripura on December 16, 2019.
  • The SEZ is being set-up at Paschim Jalefa, Sabroom, South Tripura District, which is 130 km away from Agartala. It will be a Sector Specific Economic Zone for Agro-Based Food Processing.


2. GeM sign two MoUs with UCO Bank and Bank of Maharashtra for Payment Related Services
  • The Government e- Marketplace (GeM) signed two MoUs with Bank of Maharashtra and UCO Bank on 16 Dec 2019 to offer a number of services including transfer of funds through GeM Pool Accounts (GPA), advising of Performance Bank Guarantees (e-PBG) and Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) to the registered users on the portal.


3. Sahitya Akademi announces annual Sahitya Akademi Awards 2019 in 23 languages
  • Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages. Seven books of poetry, four of novel, six of short stories, three of essays and one each of non-fiction, autobiography and biography have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2019.
  • The Awards were recommended by distinguished Jury members representing 23 Indian languages and approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi which met today under the Chairmanship of Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambar, President, Sahitya Akademi.


4. Quality Council of India (QCI) Conclave will be held in Uttarakhand on 20th December 2019
  • Quality Council of India (QCI) along with PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) is organizing its 11th Regional Quality Conclave (RQC) on 20th December 2019 at, Rudrapur, district Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand.
  • The Conclave will be inaugurated by Madan Kaushik, Minister of Urban Development Government of Uttarakhand. Faggan Singh Kulaste, Minister of State, Ministry of Steel, Government of India will also attend.
  • The theme of the Rudrapur RQC is “Advance Manufacturing with Quality, Innovation & Technology Interventions.”


5. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman holds Pre-Budget consultation with Finance Ministers of State/UTs
  • Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman held the Pre-Budget consultations with Finance Ministers of States and UTs (with legislature) in New Delhi.
  • The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Goa, Haryana and Puducherry, Deputy Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Tripura as well as 17 Finance Ministers/Ministers representing their states and senior Officers from Union Government and States. Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs Shri Anurag Singh Thakur also attended the meeting.


6. Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh visits Naval Air Station Oceana & Naval Station Norfolk during his US visit
  • Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh visited the Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana and Naval Station Norfolk on December 17, 2019 during his visit to the United States of America. The visit highlighted the depth of the US-India defence partnership and the close ties between the Navies of the two countries.
  • During the visit to NAS Oceana, Raksha Mantri inspected a Boeing Mobile Flight Simulator, static display and F/A-18E flight demonstration. The Indian delegation also toured the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), which is located at Naval Station Norfolk.


7. Naval Chief Admiral Karambir Singh visit to Sri Lanka
  • Admiral Karambir Singh Chief of the Naval Staff, Indian Navy will be visiting Sri Lanka from 19 to 22 Dec 19. The visit is intended to consolidate and enhance the bilateral maritime relations between India and Sri Lanka.
  • During his visit, the CNS will hold bilateral discussions with V Adm KKVPH De Silva, Commander of Sri Lanka Navy, Service Chiefs and other senior Government officials.
