1. DRDO successfully flight-tests Pinaka Missile System from Odisha coast
  • Pinaka Missile System developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was successfully flight-tested from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur from the Odisha coast. 
  • The Pinaka is an Artillery Missile System capable of striking into enemy territory up to a range of 75 kilometres with high precision.


2. Ministry of Railways signs MoU with University of Birmingham for establishment of Centre of Excellence for Next Generation Transportation Systems
  • The National Rail Transport Institute, a deemed to be university under the Ministry of Railways, signed an MoU with the University of Birmingham in Rail Bhawan, New Delhi on December 18th, 2019 to set up its first Centre of Excellence for Next Generation Transportation Systems.
  • The MoU was signed by Mr. Vinod Kumar Yadav, Chairman, Railway Board and Chancellor of NRTI, and Professor Clive Roberts, Head of the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE) at the University of Birmingham.

  • Ministry of Railways organised a Third Edition of Conference on Wagon Development for New Commodities. The objective of the conference was to evolve innovative solutions for transportation challenges in the automobile, steel, cement, food-grain and other special commodities segments and to chart out a road map to exploit the market potential in freight segment for the Indian Railways. 
  • The attempt is to find workable solutions to transportation challenges pertaining to Railways by involving major stakeholders in freight operations.


4. Prime Minister addresses the second meeting of the National Committee of ‘Gandhi 150’ commemorations
  • The Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the second meeting of the National Committee held at Rashtrapati Bhawan.


5. President Ram Nath Kovind chairs the second meeting of the National Committee for Commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi
  • The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind chaired the second meeting of the National Committee for Commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at Rashtrapati Bhavan. 
  • Participants of the meeting included members of the National Committee including the Vice President Venkaiah Naidu; Prime Minister Narendra Modi; members of the Union Cabinet; Chief Ministers of various states; noted Gandhians among others. Prime Minister of Portugal HE Mr. Antonio Costa, the only foreign Prime Minister to be a member of the Committee, also participated in the meeting.
  • The Committee was constituted for commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation at the national and international level to propagate Mahatma’s message. 


6. Closing Ceremony:  INDO-Russia Joint Tri-Services Exercise Indra- 2019
  • The second edition of bilateral tri-services Exercise INDRA-2019 between Indian and Russia concluded today at Babina, Pune and Goa. 
  • The exercise included joint training in counter terrorism and counter insurgency operations under the United Nations mandate.
  • Important lectures, demonstrations and drills related to counter terrorism operations were rehearsed and executed jointly.
