1. General Bipin Rawat assumes charge of first Chief of Defence Staff

General Bipin Rawat assumed office of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) in New Delhi.
The CDS is a 4-star single-point military adviser to function as a single-point adviser to the government on matters related to the military and will focus on better synergy between the Army, Air Force and the Navy.
General Bipin Rawat was commissioned into the Indian Army in December 1978 and is currently serving as Chief of the Army Staff since January 01, 2017.

2. Vinod Kumar Yadav assumes charge as Chairman, Railway Board on reappointment for a period of one year

Vinod Kumar Yadav, IRSEE (1980 Batch) has assumed charge today on 01.01.2020 after being reappointed as Chairman, Railway Board, in the rank of Ex-Officio Principal Secretary to Government of India.
The Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) has approved re-employment of Vinod Kumar Yadav as Chairman, Railway Board for a period of one year.

3. Lt Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane to take over as new Army Chief

Vice Chief of the Army Staff, Lt Gen Manoj Mukund Naravane will take over as new Army Chief. He will succeed Gen Bipin Rawat, who retires today after a three-year stint as Army chief.
Lt Gen Naravane will take over as Chief of the Army Staff in the substantive rank of General with effect from the afternoon of December 31, 2019.

5. Indian Railways to Launch Tejas Express on Ahmedabad-Mumbai Route

After the successful run of Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express, the second premium Tejas train is ready to run between Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
The inaugural run of this second Tejas Train will be flagged off from Ahmedabad on 17th January, 2020. The commercial run of the train will start with effect from 19th January, 2020 from Ahmedabad.

6. Government extends PAN-Aadhaar linking deadline till March 2020

The central government extended the deadline for linking Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar by March next year. The earlier deadline was December 31.
This is the eighth time that the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for individuals to link their PAN with Aadhaar.
