1. Nirmala Sitharaman attends Special Board of Governors meeting of New Development Bank through video-conference: Highlights with Details 
  • Union Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman attended the Special Board of Governors meeting of the New Development Bank (NDB) through video-conference in New Delhi.
  • The agenda included the election of next President of NDB, appointment of Vice-President and Chief Risk Officer and membership expansion.


2. Ministry of Tourism organises 24th webinar titled Culture & Tourism - Two sides of Goan economy under Dekho Apna Desh Series Highlights with Details
  • Ministry of Tourism, Government of India’s Dekho Apna Desh Webinar Series titled , “Culture & Tourism- Two sides of Goan economy on 26th May 2020 presented the Culture, history , heritage and architectural marvel that India’s most popular tourist destination ‘Goa’ offers thus bringing the participants face to face with the lesser known places, history, architecture, Culture and heritage waiting to be explored by the tourists.
  • Presented by Mr. Sanjeev Sardesai (Historian), Mr. Arminio Riberio (Architect) and Ms. Sawani Shetye(Archaeologist), the webinar showcased the richness of Goa that extends back through centuries of profound history and cultural exchange and creativity which is beyond the famous beaches and nightlife.


3. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal holds meeting with the industry and trade associations
  • Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal today held meeting, through Video conference, with the industry and trade associations. This was the fifth such meeting since the lockdown with the associations, to assess the impact of Covid-19 lockdown and subsequent relaxations on their activities, and take note of their suggestions to put the economy back on tracks.
  • The meeting was attended by the Ministers of State for Commerce and Industry Shri Som Parkash and Shri H.S.Puri, and Officers of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Among the Associations, the meeting was attended today, by CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, NASSCOM, PHDCI, CAIT, FISME, Laghu Udyog Bharati, SIAM, ACMA, IMTMA, SICCI, FAMT, ICC and IEEMA.


4. 1.78 Lakh MT pulses distributed to 13.4 Crore beneficiaries in States/UTs under PM-GKY
  • Distribution of Pulses under PM-GKY Yojana: Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PM-GKY) about 4.57 Lakh MT of pulses have been dispatched to the States/UTs. Out of this, 1.78 Lakh MT pulses have been distributed to 1340.61 Lakh beneficiaries in the States/UTs.


5. Indian Railways operationalizes 3543 “Shramik Special” trains till 27th May 2020 across the country
  • The Ministry of Home Affairs order regarding movement of migrant workers, pilgrims, tourists, students and other persons stranded at different places by special trains, Indian Railways is operating “Shramik Special” trains form 1st May 2020.
  • As on 27th May 2020 (1000hrs), a total of 3543 “Shramik Special” trains have been operationalized from various states across the country. On 26.05.2020, 255 Shramik Specials were originated. Till now, around 48 lacs migrants have been transported through Shramik Special Trains in 26 days.


6. Government is exploring new financial lending institutions to support small-scale units - Nitin Gadkari
  • Union Minister for MSME and Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today said that the government is exploring new financial lending institutions to support small-scale units in terms of financial support. Union Minister Gadkari said that government is working towards strengthening the NBFCs which will help small businesses to avail easy credit in the coming time.
  • He was speaking at a meeting via video conferencing with the Members of Calcutta Chamber of Commerce on impact of COVID-19 on MSMEs and the measures taken to address the challenges at hand.


7. PFC signs MoU with NBPCL to fund projects worth ₹ 22,000 crore for 225 MW hydro-electric projects & Multipurpose projects in Madhya Pradesh
  • Power Finance Corporation (PFC), the central PSU under Ministry of Power and India's leading NBFC, entered into an agreement with Narmada Basin Projects Company Ltd. (NBPCL), a wholly-owned company of Govt. of Madhya Pradesh, to fund projects worth Rs.22,000 crore for 225 MW hydro-electric projects & multipurpose projects in the State of Madhya Pradesh.
  • The funds will be deployed by NBPCL for setting up hydroelectric projects of 225 MW and power components of 12 major multipurpose projects in Madhya Pradesh.
