Veteran Actor Paresh Rawal appointed as Chairman of National School of Drama (NSD) Society: Quick Highlights 

Veteran Actor Paresh Rawal has been appointed as Chairman of National School of Drama (NSD) Society by President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind. Mr. Paresh Rawal has been appointed to the post of Chairman, NSD Society for four years.

Mr. Paresh Rawal is an actor par excellence in both Theatre and Film. Its been almost four decades of him serving the film and theatre industry for which he has won numerous awards, including the prestigious National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1994.

In 2014, he was conferred with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India, for his contribution to the entertainment industry. He also served as a former member of Parliament.

Established in 1959, the National School of Drama is an autonomous organization, fully financed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. One of the foremost theatre training institutions in the world, NSD had it’s inception under the aegis of the Sangeet Natak Akademi and became an independent entity in 1975.

Former Union minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh passes away at 74 

Former Union Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh has passed away. He was 74. Recently, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh was admitted to Delhi AIIMS due to deteriorating health.

Raghuvansh Prasad Singh played a pioneer role in implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS)/(NREGA) during the UPA government.

ADB, India Sign USD 500 Million Loan for Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor 

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India today signed a $500 million loan, the first tranche of a total $1 billion facility, to build a modern, high-speed 82-kilometer Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor that will improve regional connectivity and mobility in India’s national capital region (NCR).

The MoU Signed by:

The signatories to the loan agreement for the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Investment Project were Shri Sameer Kumar Khare, Additional Secretary (Fund Bank and ADB), Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance who signed for the Government of India, and Mr. Kenichi Yokoyama, Country Director of ADB’s India Resident Mission who signed for ADB.


Hunar Haat, being organised by Union Minority Affairs Ministry, to restart from October 2020 

After a gap of about 6 months due to the Corona pandemic, “Hunar Haat” will restart from 09th October 2020 with the theme of “Local to Global” and focus on indigenous exquisite Indian toys.

“Hunar Haat”, which will restart from 09th October 2020, will be organised with the theme of “Local to Global”. The next “Hunar Haat” will be organised at Prayagraj from 9 to 18 October, 2020.

“Hunar Haat” has been providing market and opportunity to India’s indigenous legacy of handmade art/crafts. “Hunar Haat” has proved to be magnificent platform to understand India’s rich cultural heritage under one roof.

The Minority Affairs Ministry has organised more than 2 dozen “Hunar Haat” so far across the country where lakhs of artisans, craftsmen have been provided employment and employment opportunities through these “Hunar Haat”. 

In the coming days, “Hunar Haat” will be organized at Jaipur (23 Oct -1 November 2020), Chandigarh (7- 15 November 2020), Indore (21 to 29 November 2020), Mumbai (22 to 31 December 2020), Hyderabad (8 to 17 January 2021), Lucknow (23 to 31 January 2021), India Gate, New Delhi (13 to 21 February 2021), Ranchi (20 to 28 February 2021), Kota (5 to 14 March 2021), Surat/Ahmedabad (20 to 27 March 2021) etc.


India, World Bank sign USD 82 million loan for implementation of Himachal Pradesh State Roads Transformation Project

The Government of India, the Government of Himachal Pradesh and the World Bank signed $82 million loan agreement for the implementation of Himachal Pradesh State Roads Transformation Project which will strengthen transport and road safety institutions of Himachal Pradesh by improving the condition, safety, resilience, and engineering standards of state road network.

The Himachal Pradesh State Roads Transformation Project will finance initiatives to build climate and disaster resilient roads; improve road safety along tourism corridors in Himachal; enhance logistics along fruit belts; and support the government’s initiative to create a corporate entity responsible for ensuring well-performing roads. A third of the maintenance contracts under the project will be awarded to women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

The MoU Signed by:

The loan agreement was signed by Shri Khare, on behalf of the Government of India and Mr Junaid Kamal Ahmad, Country Director (India) on behalf of the World Bank. Whereas, the project agreement was signed by Shri Jagdish Chander Sharma, Principal Secretary, Public Works Department on behalf of the Government of Himachal Pradesh and Mr Ahmad.
