I. Prime Minister Modi to participate in the Ekta Diwas Celebrations at Kevadia, Gujarat on 31st October
  1. To commemorate 145th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel on 31 October 2020 as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will visit Kevadia in Gujarat to pay homage to the great leader at the Statue of Unity. The Prime Minister will participate at the Ekta Diwas Parade and administer the Rashtriya Ekta Pledge.
  2. Shri Narendra Modi to interact with Officer Trainees of Indian Civil Services in the second edition of the Integrated Foundation Course, ”Aarambh”
  3. The theme of Aarambh 2020 is “Governance in India @ 100”.


II. India hosts 19th meeting of SCO Ministers handling economy and foreign trade
  1. India hosted the 19th Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Ministers responsible for Foreign Economy and Foreign Trade Activities.
  2. Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Shri Hardeep Singh Puri also spoke on the occasion. The virtual meeting was attended by the Secretary General of SCO and Ministers from, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.


III. Apurva Chandra elected as Chairperson of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO)  
  1. Shri Apurva Chandra, Secretary (Labour and Employment) has been elected as the Chairperson of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) for the period October 2020- June 2021. The Chairperson of the Governing Body of ILO is a position of international repute.
  2. After 35 years, India has assumed the Chairmanship of the Governing Body of International Labour Organization, marking a new chapter in the 100 years of productive relationship between India and ILO.


IV. Govt extends deadline for filing income tax returns by individual taxpayers till Dec 31
  1. To provide more time to taxpayers for furnishing of Income Tax Returns, the Central government has extended the deadline for filing returns by individual taxpayers for Financial Year 2019-20 till 31st of December this year. Earlier, the tax filing deadline was 30th of November.
  2. Ministry of Finance in a statement said, the due date of furnishing Income Tax Returns for taxpayers whose accounts require to be audited, has been extended till 31st of January, 2021.


V. India's foreign exchange reserves touch all time high of 555.12 billion dollars
  1. India's foreign exchange reserves have surged by 3.615 billion dollars to touch a fresh lifetime high of 555.12 billion dollars in the week ended 16th October.
  2. Foreign currency assets, a major part of the overall reserves, increased by 3.539 billion dollars to 512.322 billion dollars.


VI. PM Modi inaugurate National Conference on Vigilance and Anti Corruption
  1. The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the National Conference on Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, on the theme Vigilant India, Prosperous India.
  2. The Central Bureau of Investigation organizes this National Conference coinciding with ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’, which is observed in India every year from 27th October to 2nd November. Activities in this conference would be focused on Vigilance issues aimed at raising awareness and reaffirming India’s commitment to promotion of integrity and probity in public life through citizen participation.

  1. The Central Vigilance Commission observes the Vigilance Awareness Week from 27th October to 2nd November, 2020. This is observed every year during the week in which the birthday of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (31st October) falls. This awareness week campaign affirms our commitment to promotion of integrity and probity in public life through citizen participation.
  2. In 2020, the Vigilance Awareness Week is being observed from 27th October to 2nd November, 2020 with the theme, “सतर्क भारत, समृद्ध भारत - Satark Bharat, Samriddh Bharat (Vigilant India, Prosperous India)”.


VIII. Third India-US 2+2 Dialogue to be held in New Delhi
  1. The third India-US 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue will be held in New Delhi. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Secretary of Defense Mark T. Esper are on a two day visit to India to participate in the Dialogue.
  2. From the Indian side, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will lead the delegations.
  3. The third annual India-US, 2 plus 2 Ministerial Dialogue will focus on advancing the Indo-US comprehensive global strategic partnership.

  1. The All-India Senior Selection Committee met via video-conference on Monday to select the Indian Cricket Team for the upcoming Tour of Australia. Team India will take part in three T20Is, three ODIs and four Test matches against Australia.


X. LT GEN Nanda Kishore Sahoo Assumes Appointment of Director General Dental Services
  1. Lieutenant General Nanda Kishore Sahoo, VSM assumed the appointment of Director General Dental Services and Colonel Commandant of Army Dental Corps on 12 Oct 2020.
  2. During his distinguished military career of 37 years, he has held multiple important appointments including Command of a unit in Kashmir Valley, Command Advisor of Western, Central and Southern Commands.


XI. Government imposes stock limit to check rise in onion prices
  1. The Government has said it has taken steps to moderate prices and availability of onion in the country.
  2. Consumer Affairs Secretary Leela Nandan said, a stock limit has been imposed on the onions with effect from today which is 25 Metric Tonnes for Wholesalers and 2 Metric Tonnes for Retailers for a period up to 31st December 2020.
