I. Prime Minister Modi to inaugurate Summit RAISE 2020- ‘Responsible AI for Social Empowerment 2020’ on Oct 5: Quick Highlights
  1. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate RAISE 2020- ‘Responsible AI for Social Empowerment 2020,’ a Mega Virtual Summit on Artificial Intelligence (AI) on October 5 at 7PM.
  2. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and NITI Aayog are organising the Mega Virtual Summit AI from October 5-9, 2020.
  3. RAISE 2020 will be a global meeting of minds to exchange ideas and chart a course for using AI for social transformation, inclusion and empowerment in areas like Healthcare, Agriculture, Education and Smart Mobility, among other sectors.


II. P D Vaghela appointed as new chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)
  1. Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) Officer Dr P. D. Vaghela has been appointed as the new Chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India- TRAI.
  2. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment. He will replace R.S. Sharma. Mr Vaghela will hold the post for a period of three years or until he attains the age of 65 years.
  3. Mr P D Vaghela, who is retiring as Secretary of Pharmaceuticals, will now assume the new responsibility as Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

  1. Social activist Pushpa Bhave passed away in Mumbai following a prolonged illness. She was 81.
  2. She has been associated with the Rashtra Seva Dal and democratic movements since her student days. She was also an academician and an intellectual, who fought for the rights of common citizens.
  3. Bhave took part in the United Maharashtra Movement and the Goa Liberation Movement.

  1. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today dedicated the strategically important all-weather Atal Tunnel, Rohtang in Himachal Pradesh to the nation. On this occasion, Prime Minister addressed two public gatherings one at Sisu in Lahol valley and another at Solang in Manali.
  2. Atal Tunnel, Rohtang is the world’s longest 9.02- kilometre double lane tunnel located at an altitude of 10,040 feet.

  1. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated in the Abhinandan program in Solang Valley, Himachal Pradesh today. Earlier he dedicated to the nation the World’s longest Atal Tunnel at Rohtang and participated in the Abhar Samaroh at Sissu in Himachal Pradesh.
  2. The Prime Minister Modi announced the construction of 66 MW Dhaulasidh Hydro Project at Hamirpur. He added not only will it provide electricity but also several employment opportunities to youth of the region.


VII. Army Chief, Foreign Secretary on two-day visit to Myanmar on 4-5 October
  1. Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Naravane and Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla will be on a two-day visit to Myanmar on 4-5 October.
  2. During their visit, the delegation will call on the State Counsellor of Myanmar, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and Commander-in-Chief of the Myanmar Armed Forces, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. External Affairs Ministry, in a statement said that the visit will provide an opportunity to take stock of the existing bilateral ties and strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

  1. Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat yesterday launched a 100-day campaign to provide potable piped water supply in Schools and Anganwadi Centres.
  2. This mission was envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 29th of last month, while releasing the ‘Margdarshika’ for Gram Panchayats and Paani Samitis for implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission.

It was inaugurated by Mr. S K Verma, Ambassador of India to Japan.

  1. To mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Ministry of Tourism organised a webinar on "Charkhe pe Charcha” under Dekho Apna Desh Webinar Series on 02nd October 2020.
  2. The Webinar titled “Charkhe pe Charcha” focused on spinning wheel and Khadi. Khadi, the moral fabric of the nation is a metaphor for swarajya and swavalamban. Nowhere in world history would you find the anti-colonial narrative spun around a fabric like in the case of India. From the boycott of foreign cloth to the promotion of handspun, handwoven khaddar, the spinning wheel or the charkha is a political and emotional symbol for India and this narrative is the gift of one man, Mahatma Gandhi, whose vision for a self-reliant village and spiritual cleansing were all tied to the yarn on the wheel.
