Prime Minister Modi to hold Virtual Summit with Finland PM Sanna Marin  

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will hold Virtual Summit with the Prime Minister of the Finland Ms Sanna Marin on 16 March 2021.

During the Summit, the two leaders will cover the entire spectrum of bilateral relationship and will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. The Virtual Summit will provide a blueprint for the future expansion and diversification of India-Finland Partnership.

India and Finland enjoy warm and friendly relations based on shared values of democracy, freedom and rules based international order. Both countries have very close cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, education, innovation, Science & Technology as well as Research and Development. Both sides also have ongoing collaboration in the joint development of a Quantum Computer using Artificial Intelligence to address societal challenges. Around 100 Finnish companies are actively operating in India in various sectors such as telecom, elevators, machinery and energy including Renewable Energy. Around 30 Indian companies are also active in Finland mainly in IT, auto-components and hospitality sector.


Insurance (Amendment) Bill, 2021 introduced in Rajya Sabha

The Insurance (Amendment) Bill, 2021 seeking increase in the FDI limit to 74 per cent in the domestic Insurance Companies was today introduced in the Rajya Sabha. Union Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the bill which aims at amending the Insurance Act, 1938. The FDI limit in the Indian Insurance companies at the moment stands at 49 per cent.


Cabinet approves MoU between India and Maldives on Cooperation in Sports and Youth Affairs 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, was apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment of the Republic of Maldives for cooperation in Sports and Youth Affairs. The MoU was signed on November, 2020.

Objectives:

Bilateral exchange programmes in the field of sports and youth affairs between India and Maldives will help in expanding knowledge and expertise in the area of sports science, sports medicine, coaching techniques, participation in youth festivals and camps which would result in improvement in performance of our sportspersons in international tournaments and strengthening of bilateral relations between India and Maldives.


Cabinet approves closure of Handicrafts and Handlooms Export Corporation of India Limited 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved the closure of Handicrafts and Handlooms Export Corporation of India Limited (HHEC), the Corporation, a Government of India undertaking under the administrative control of the Ministry of Textiles.

There are 59 permanent employees and 6 Management Trainees serving in the Corporation. All the permanent employees and Management Trainees will be given an opportunity to availthe benefit of a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) as per norms laid down by the Department of Public Enterprises.


Cabinet approves Revised Cost Estimates for strengthening of Transmission and Distribution in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim  

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, in a major step towards economic development of the States of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim through strengthening of Intra - State Transmission and Distribution systems has approved the Revised Cost Estimate (RCE) of Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission & Distribution in Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim at an estimated cost of Rs. 9129.32 crore.

The scheme is being implemented through POWERGRID, a Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under Ministry of Power in association with Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh and is targeted to be commissioned in phased manner by December 2021 for awarded scope of works and 36 months from RCE approval for un-awarded packages. Rajinder Chaudhry assumes charge as ADG PIB Odisha Region  

Shri Rajinder Chaudhry, a senior officer of the Indian Information Service (IIS) on Monday assumed the charge of the Additional Director General (ADG) of Press Information Bureau (PIB), Odisha region. He will be heading both PIB Bhubaneswar and Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB), Bhubaneswar. He will also be acting as the Additional Press Registrar of RNI.

Prior to his current charge as the ADG, Shri Chaudhry was the Chief Media in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. An IIS officer of 1997 batch, Shri Rajinder worked in different capacities in various departments of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India which include Director, Publication Division and Director, PIB New Delhi.


February WPI inflation at 27-month high, rises to 4.17 per cent

The wholesale price-based inflation rose to 4.17 percent to hit 27 month high in February this year. The Commerce and Industry Ministry data release today showed that WPI rose mainly due to rise in food, fuel and manufactured goods prices. As compared to January this year, provisional food prices was up by 3.31 percent and manufactured products rose 5.81 percent in the reported month.
