Indian Panorama announces official selection of films for 52nd IFFI, 2021 edition in Goa     

The International Film Festival of India has announced the selection of films for the Indian Panorama section to be screened during its 52nd edition in Goa. Jury’s choice for the opening feature film of Indian Panorama 2021 is the film Semkhor (Dimasa) directed by Aimee Baruah. Ved. The Visionary directed by Rajiv Parkash will be the opening Indian non-feature film.

A total of 24 Feature films have been selected to be screened during IFFI. Selected from a wide pool of 221 contemporary Indian Films, they reflect the vibrancy and diversity of the Indian film industry. The Feature Film Jury, comprising twelve members, was headed by acclaimed filmmaker and actor, S V Rajendra Singh Babu.

A total of 20 Non-Feature films have been selected to be screened during IFFI. The Non - Feature Jury of seven members was headed by acclaimed documentary filmmaker S. Nallamuthu.

Govt cuts basic duty on crude palm oil, soybean oil and sunflower oil from 2.5% to zero  

The government has reduced the basic duty on crude palm oil, crude soybean oil and crude sunflower oil from 2.5 per cent to zero in order to control the continuous rise in cooking oil prices since last one year.

Agricultural cess on these oils has been reduced from 20 per cent to 7.5 per cent for crude palm oil and 5 per cent for crude soybean oil and crude sunflower oil. After this decision of the government, the total duty on crude palm oil has been reduced to 7.5 percent and on crude soybean oil and crude sunflower oil to 5 percent.

The IMF has welcomed India’s announcement at the COP26 summit on new targets to increase reliance on renewables and reduce the carbon intensity of its economy, including to adopt a net-zero target by 2070.

Gerry Rice, Director of Communications at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), told reporters at a press conference in Washington yesterday that India's action could help catalyze action in other emerging economies as well as address the challenges of climate change.


Manu Bhaker and Javad Foroughi win Air Pistol Mixed Team gold in President’s Cup 2021  

India’s woman pistol ace Manu Bhaker and Iran’s reigning Olympic champion Javad Foroughi, won the 10M Air Pistol Mixed Team gold at the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) President’s Cup Rifle/Pistol in Wroclaw, Poland.

The Indo-Iranian pair got the better of the French-Russian duo of Mathilde Lamolle and Artem Chernousov 16-8 in the gold medal match.

The inaugural ISSF President’s Cup is a rechristened version of the ISSF World Cup Finals, where the year’s top 12 athletes according to World Ranking are invited to determine the best individual athletes of the year in the respective Olympic events. Individual winners will be awarded The Golden Target along with prize money. Cash awards will also be awarded to all athletes in the individual competitions.


Saurabh Chaudhary wins Silver & Abhishek Verma wins Bronze in Men's 10m Air Pistol event at President's Cup 2021  

Saurabh Chaudhary won silver while Abhishek Verma clinched bronze in the men's 10m air pistol at the President's Cup 2021 in Wroclaw, Poland. Saurabh Chaudhary scored 24 points and Abhishek Verma finished with 21 points.

Germany's Christian Reitz won the gold medal in the men's 10m pistol event with a total of 34 points in the final.


Akash Kumar wins Bronze Medal at AIBA World Boxing Championships 2021 

Indian Boxer Akash Kumar won the bronze medal in the AIBA Men's World Boxing Championships 2021.

Akash Kumar (54kg) becomes the 7th male boxer from India to win a medal at the World Boxing Championships. He also claimed a prize money of $25,000.

Akash joined the elite list of boxers that includes Amit Panghal (silver in 2019), Vijender Singh (bronze in 2009), Vikas Krishan (bronze in 2011), Shiva Thapa (bronze in 2015), Gaurav Bidhuri (bronze in 2017) and Manish Kaushik (bronze in 2019) who have won medals for the country at the Men's World Championships in the past.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister Modi said;

India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 107.92 Cr; Recovery Rate at 98.23%

With the administration of 20,75,942vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 107.92 Cr (1,07,92,19,546) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

The recovery of 12,509 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) to 3,37,37,468.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.23%. 10,929 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

The Active Caseload is presently at1,46,950 which is lowest in 255 days. Active cases presently constitute 0.43% of the country's total Positive Cases, which is lowest since March 2020.

The Weekly Positivity Rate at 1.27% remains less than 2% for the last 43 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 1.35%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below 2% for the last 33 days and below 3% for 68 consecutive days now.
