UNESCO inscribes ‘Durga Puja in Kolkata’ on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity    

In an important announcement, the Intergovernmental Committee of UNESCO’s 2003 Convention on Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage has inscribed ‘Durga Puja in Kolkata’ on the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity during its 16th session being held at Paris, France from 13th to 18th December 2021.

The Committee commended Durga Puja for its initiatives to involve marginalized groups, and individuals as well as women in their participation in safeguarding the element.

Key Highlights

With the inscription of Durga Puja in Kolkata, India now has 14 intangible cultural heritage elements on the prestigious UNESCO Representative List of ICH of Humanity. In recent years, the ICH elements that saw inscriptions areKumbh Mela (inscribed 2017), Yoga (inscribed 2016) among others. India is a signatory of the 2003 UNESCO Convention which aims for the Safeguarding of the Intangible of the Intangible Heritage along with traditions and living expression. Intangible cultural heritage means the practises, representations, expressions, knowledge, skills – as well as the instruments, objects, artefacts and cultural spaces associated with them that communities, groups and, in some cases, individuals recognize as a part of their cultural heritage. Furthermore, its importance is not in the cultural manifestation itself, but in the wealth of knowledge, know-how and skills that are transmitted from one generation to the next.


Ministry of Corporate Affairs signs MoU with Financial Intelligence Unit-India for data exchange  

The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) signed A formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Financial Intelligence Unit-India, Ministry of Finance for data exchange between the two organisations.

The MoU will facilitate the sharing of data and information between MCA and FIU-INDIA on an automatic and regular basis. It will enable sharing of specific information such as information relating to suspicious transactions, KYC related details and consolidated financial statements of companies registered in the country. 

The MoU will ensure that both MCA and FIU-INDIA have seamless linkage for regulatory purposes. In addition to regular exchange of data, MCA and FIU-INDIA will also exchange with each other, on request, any information available in their respective databases, for the purpose of carrying out scrutiny, inspection, investigation and prosecution.


PM Modi to lay foundation stone of Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur, UP  

Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of Ganga Expressway in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh on 18 December, 2021.

The 594 Km long six-lane Expressway will be built at a cost of over Rs 36,200 crore. Starting near the Bijauli village in Meerut, the Expressway will extend till near the Judapur Dandu village in Prayagraj. It will pass through Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, RaeBareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. 

Upon completion of work, it will become the longest expressway of Uttar Pradesh, connecting the western and eastern regions of the state. A 3.5 Km long air strip for assisting emergency take off and landing of Air Force planes will also be constructed on the Expressway in Shahjahanpur. An industrial corridor is also proposed to be built along the Expressway.


Vande Bharatam Final Competition to be held in New Delhi on 19th December  

73 groups comprising 949 dancers from North, South, East, West zones have made it to the Grand Finale of ‘Vande Bharatam-Nritya Utsav’, an All-India dance competition being organized under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The Vande Bharatam Final Competition will be held in New Delhi at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Auditorium on 19th of December 2021. It is a unique initiative based on jan bhagidari whose prime objective is to select the top dancing talent from across the country and provide them the opportunity to perform during the Republic Day Parade 2022.

Over 2,400 participants from 200 plus teams were short-listed for the zonal level competitions. where 104 groups displayed their dance prowess before an august jury. Participating groups performed specially choreographed acts in various dance categories like classical, folk, tribal, and fusion. One experienced rich display of talent and colourful attires from across India. There was enthusiastic participation from all sections of the society across categories highlighting the spirit of Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat.

Top 480 dancers will be declared as winners from the Grand Finale and they will get the golden opportunity to perform on the Republic Day Parade to be held at Rajpath, New Delhi on 26th January 2022.

Background

The Vande Bharatam competition began at the district level on Nov 17 and saw the participation of more than 3,870 contestants in 323 groups. Those who cleared the screening at the district level took part in the state-level competition from Nov 30, 2021. More than 20 virtual events were conducted for the state-level competition over a span of 5 days till 4th December 2021.


PM Modi to inaugurate All India Mayors’ Conference on 17 December  

Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and address the All India Mayors’ Conference, being organised by the Department of Urban Development, Uttar Pradesh in Varanasi on 17 December 2021 via video conferencing. The theme of the Conference is “New Urban India”.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 135.25 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 98.38%

With the administration of 60,12,425 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 135.25 Cr (1,35,25,36,986) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

The recovery of 7,948 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) to 3,41,54,879.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.38%,highest since March 2020. 7,974 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload is presently at 87,245. Active cases constitute 0.25% of the country's total Positive Cases, which is lowest since March 2020.

The Weekly Positivity Rate at 0.64% remains less than 1% for the last 32 days now. The Daily Positivity rate reported to be 0.57%. The daily Positivity rate has remained below 2% for the last 73 days and below 3% for 108 consecutive days now.
