DRDO conducts final successful test of Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM)       

Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully flight tested the final deliverable configuration of Man Portable Anti-Tank Guided Missile (MPATGM) on January 11, 2022.

The indigenously developed anti-tank missile is a low weight, fire & forget missile and is launched from a man portable launcher, integrated with thermal sight. The missile impacted the designated target and destroyed it. The final impact event was captured on camera and the test has validated the minimum range successfully.

The present test was to prove the consistent performance for the minimum range. All the mission objectives were met. The missile has miniaturised infrared imaging seeker and advanced avionics for on-board control and guidance. The missile performance has been proven for the maximum range in earlier test trials.


Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurate 25th National Youth Festival in Puducherry 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 25th National Youth Festival in Puducherry, via video conferencing. Today 12th January being the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the great philosopher and thinker, is observed as National Youth Day every year.

PM Modi inaugurates 11 new medical colleges & a new campus of CICT in Tamil Nadu  

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 11 new medical colleges and a new campus of Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) in Tamil Nadu today through video conference.

The new medical colleges are being established at an estimated cost of about Rs 4000 crore, out of which around Rs 2145 crore has been provided by the Union government and rest by the Tamil Nadu government.

The districts in which the new Medical Colleges are being established are Virudhunagar, Namakkal, The Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Thiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri. Establishment of these medical colleges is in line with the Prime Minister's constant endeavour to promote affordable medical education and improve health infrastructure in all parts of the country. The new medical colleges, with cumulative capacity of 1450 seats, are being established under the Centrally Sponsored scheme of ’Establishing of New Medical Colleges attached with existing district/referral hospital’. Under the scheme, medical colleges are established in districts, which do not have either a government or private medical college.

The establishment of a new campus of Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) in Chennai is in line with the Prime Minister’s vision to protect and preserve Indian heritage and promote classical languages. The new campus is fully funded by the Union Government and is built at a cost of Rs 24 Crore. CICT, which was operating from a rented building so far, will now operate from a new 3 storey campus. The new campus is equipped with a spacious library, an e-library, seminar halls and a multimedia hall.


PM Modi inaugurates MSME Technology Centre at Puducherry 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a Technology Centre of the MSME Ministry, established at Puducherry, on the occasion of National youth day today.

This World Class Technology Centre set up with an investment of about Rs. 122 crore is spread across 10 acres, will train 20,000 youth, support 2000 MSMEs and incubate 200 Start Ups, thereby propelling the local economy to great heights.


CBDT extends due dates for filling Audit reports and IT Returns for 2021-22 

Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended due dates for filing of Audit reports and Income Tax Returns for Assessment Year 2021-22.

In a release, the Finance Ministry said that this was done in consideration of difficulties reported by taxpayers and stakeholders due to COVID. The due date for furnishing the return of income for 2021-22, which was earlier extended till February 15, has now been extended till March 15. The due of furnishing of Report of Audit has now been extended to 15th February.


Bangladesh GDP grow at 6.4 percent in FY 2021-22: World Bank 

As per the World Bank latest Global Economic Prospects report announced on Wednesday the Bangladesh GDP will grow at 6.4 percent in the FY 2021-22 ending June 2022, due to increasing services activity and firming exports of readymade garment.

GDP growth rate is forecast to go up to 6.9 percent in 2022-23. Bangladesh economy is estimated to have grown at 5 percent in the current fiscal 2020-21 up from 3.5 percent in 2019-20.


Senior Officers Meeting of India-US Homeland Security Dialogue held today  

The Senior Officers Meeting of the India-US Homeland Security Dialogue was held today in virtual mode.

The meeting was co-chaired by the Home Secretary, Government of India, Shri Ajay Bhalla and Under Secretary for Strategy, Policy and Plans, Department of Homeland Security, Government of USA, Mr. Robert Silvers. The meeting was also attended by other senior officials of both the countries.

Key Highlights

During the meeting, both sides reviewed the ongoing cooperation and identified further steps that can be taken to explore opportunities and synergies in advancing cooperation in counter-terrorism, cyber security, securing critical infrastructure and global supply chains, maritime security, aviation security, customs enforcement and trade security, among other issues

Both sides agreed that the existing sub-groups under the Homeland Security Dialogue on law enforcement engagement, securing global supply chains, aviation security, investigative cooperation, and capacity building and training would meet separately in the coming months to deliberate and explore how ongoing cooperation can be strengthened further.


Six boxers including Mary Kom part of National Coaching Camp 

Amit Panghal, Vikas Krishan and MC Mary Kom are among six Olympians who have been added to the ongoing National boxing Coaching Camps in the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports (Patiala) and the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. The camps will continue till March 14.

Three Services boxers Amit Panghal, Manish Kaushik and Satish Kumar, Vikas Krishan (All India Police) and Ashish Kumar (Himachal Pradesh) have now been included in the men’s camp in Patiala while Manipur’s MC Mary Kom will join the women’s camp at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.

The Olympian boxers will now join the camps, which started on January 3 with only those who had competed in the National Championships. With the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games drawing close, Sports authority of India approved the inclusion recommended by the Boxing Federation of India.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 153.80 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 96.01%

With the administration of over 85 lakh Doses (85,26,240) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 153.80 Cr (1,53,80,08,200) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

60,405 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,46,30,536.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 96.01%. 1,94,720 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload is presently at 9,55,319. Active cases constitute 2.65% of the country's total Positive Cases. The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 9.82% and the Daily Positivity rate also reported to be 11.05%.
