Eminent rocket scientist S Somanath appointed new chairman of ISRO     

Eminent rocket scientist S Somanath has been appointed the new chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as well as the Space Secretary. He will succeed K Sivan who completes his extended tenure as ISRO chief.

Henley Passport Index 2022: India ranked 83rd, Japan, Singapore tops spot in the Index   

Henley Passport Index 2022: According to the latest report released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Henley & Partners, Indian passport has been ranked 83rd in the list of world's most powerful passports.

World's most powerful passports ranking 2022: India's ranking has improved by 7 places. Indian passport was ranked 90th in 2021. This time it is at 83rd position. Indian citizens can travel visa free to 60 countries.

Japan and Singapore top the list of world's most powerful passports as it got the first rank for the year 2022. The visa-free score of both countries is at 192.

Iraq (rank 110), Afghanistan (rank 111), Pakistan (rank 108) have been ranked as the worst passports in the world in 2022.................Read More


ISRO successfully conducts qualification tests of Cryogenic Engine for Gaganyaan 

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully conducted qualification tests of the Cryogenic Engine for Gaganyaan human space programme.

The ISRO Propulsion Complex in Tamil Nadu conducted the test for 720 seconds duration and met the test objectives.

According to the report release by the ISRO the engine parameters were closely matching with the predictions during the entire duration of the test. This successful long duration test is a major milestone for the Human Space programme Gaganyaan. It ensures the reliability and robustness of the cryogenic engine for induction into the human-rated launch vehicle for Gaganyaan.

Further, this engine will undergo four more tests for a cumulative duration of 1810 seconds. Subsequently, one more engine will undergo two short-duration tests & one long-duration test to complete the cryogenic engine qualification for Gaganyaan Programme.

Ltd, a recipient of BIRAC's Women in Entrepreneurial ResearchAward 2019, was selected for its novel software-based medical device that detects early-stage breast cancer in a simple and private way on women of all age groups and breast densities, addressing a critical unmet need in cancer screening. The solution developed is a low cost, accurate, automated, portable, contactless, radiation-free, and painless cancer screening tool with no known side effects. 

The core innovation is a machine learning and AI-based Computer Diagnostic Engine called Thermalytix that uses artificial intelligence algorithms to interpret thermal images and generates a quantitative report for breast health and likely abnormalities. So far, over 45,000 women have been screened through the startup's tie-ups with over 30 hospitals and diagnostic centres across India. The product can help 2 Billion women in the world to regularly screen for cancer and can potentially save 90,000 lives every year in India alone.

InnAccel Technologies Pvt Ltd., a recipient of DBT and BMGF'sGrand Challenges Exploration-India 2019, was adjudged a winner of the Global Women's Health Tech Awards for Fetal Lite, a next-generation, AI-powered fetal heart rate (FHR) monitor based on fetal ECG signal extraction technology for mothers in labour or post 37 weeks of gestation. Fetal Lite has next-gen ECG signal processing and is more accurate, reliable, and easier to use than the conventional Doppler-based devices while being comfortable for the mother. Fetal Lite is European CE Certified and has completed 2 clinical trials of 60+ patients with excellent results and completed the demo in 30+ Hospitals. The device can be used for both active and remote monitoring in the in-hospital and in-home settings. So far, the device has helped doctors to monitor 5000 cases, including in tribal areas, and has the potential to save 1.2 million lives per year across the world.


POWERGRID sign MoU with Africa50 to pioneer Africa’s first transmission PPP project in Kenya 

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Africa50, the pan-African infrastructure investment platform to continue to develop the Kenya Transmission Project on a public-private partnership basis.

The project entails the development, financing, construction, and operation of the 400kV Lessos – Loosuk and 220kV Kisumu – Musaga transmission lines under a public-private partnership (PPP) framework. Once completed, the project will be the first Independent Power Transmission (IPT) in Kenya and will set a reference point in Africa as the first financing of transmission lines on a PPP basis. 

This Project will also improve both the supply and reliability of power transmission in Western Kenya and further create a demonstration effect to help increase private sector investments into the expansion of Africa’s power transmission networks, which is critical to bridging the continent’s electricity access gap.


Jayant Yadav & Navdeep Saini added to ODI squad for series against South Africa 

Team India off-spinner Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the forthcoming ODI series against South Africa after testing positive for COVID-19 during the camp in Bengaluru. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Jayant Yadav as replacement for Sundar. The Committee also added fast bowler Navdeep Saini to the ODI squad as a back-up for Mohammed Siraj.

India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 154.61 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 95.59%

With the administration of over 76 lakh Doses (76,32,024) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 154.61 Cr (1,54,61,39,465) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

84,825 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,47,15,361.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 95.59%. 2,47,417 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload is presently at 11,17,531. Active cases constitute 3.08% of the country's total Positive Cases. The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 10.80% and the Daily Positivity rate also reported to be 13.11%.
