India, UK Launch Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Negotiations
India and the UK have formally launched negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between two countries. Joint Statement of Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and UK Secretary of State for International Trade Anne-Marie Trevelyan said, the Free Trade Agreement would be a substantial opportunity for both economies and a significant moment in the bilateral relationship.
The India-UK bilateral trading relationship is already significant, and both sides have agreed to double that bilateral trade by 2030, as part of Roadmap 2030 announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in May last year.
Both parties have agreed that the first round of negotiations will begin on 17th of January, and future rounds of negotiations will take place approximately every five weeks.

India and China bilateral trade crossed 125 billion USD in 2021, according to Chinese customs data released on 14th January 2022.
Despite a protracted border standoff, Two-way trade between India and China in 2021 stood at 125.66 billion USD, up 43.3% from 2020 when bilateral trade was worth 87.6 billion USD.
In 2021, China’s exports to India were 97.52 billion USD, up 46.2%, while China imported 28.14 billion USD worth of goods from India, up 34.2%, according to statistics released by the General Administration of Customs (GAC).
PM Modi to interact with Startups on 15th January
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with Startups on 15th January, 2022 via video conferencing. Startups from various sectors including Agriculture, Health, Enterprise Systems, Space, Industry 4.0, Security, Fintech, Environment etc will be part of this interaction.
More than 150 startups have been divided into six working groups based on themes including Growing from Roots; Nudging the DNA; From Local to Global; Technology of Future; Building Champions in Manufacturing; and Sustainable Development. Each group will make a presentation before the Prime Minister on the allotted theme in the interaction. The aim of the interaction is to understand how startups can contribute to the national needs by driving innovation in the country.
Golfer Diksha Dagar, Yash Ghangas included in Target Olympic Podium Scheme
Haryana-based golfer Diksha Dagar and Judoka Yash Ghangas have been included in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) in the Core and Development groups respectively.
The 21-year-old left-hander Diksha Dagar, who is from Jhajjar in Haryana and is a silver medalist in the 2017 Summer Deaflympics, finished 50th in the Olympic Games last year. Yash, meanwhile, rose from Panipat in Haryana to express himself on the mat.
The Union Sports Ministry primarily supports elite athletes under the Annual Calendar for Training and Competition (ACTC) of each National Sports Federation. TOPS provides customised support to athletes in areas not covered under the ACTC and addresses unanticipated needs of the athletes as they prepare to excel in the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 155.39 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 95.20%
With the administration of over 73 lakh Doses (73,08,669) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 155.39 Cr (1,55,39,81,819) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
1,09,345 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,48,24,706.
Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 95.20%. 2,64,202 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
India’s Active Caseload is presently at 12,72,073. Active cases constitute 3.48% of the country's total Positive Cases. The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 11.83% and the Daily Positivity rate also reported to be 14.78%.
