Legendary Kathak Dancer Pandit Birju Maharaj passes away at 83

Legendary Kathak Dancer Pandit Birju Maharaj passed away due to heart attack. He was 83. The real name of Birju Maharaj was Brijmohan Mishra. He was born on February 4, 1938 in Lucknow.

Pandit Birju Maharaj was a dancer, choreographer, singer and composer. He used to play percussion, write poetry and also used to paint.

Birju Maharaj's father Achhan Maharaj, uncle Shambhu Maharaj and Lachhu Maharaj were also famous Kathak dancers.

Birju Maharaj was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1983. Along with this, he has also received Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and Kalidas Samman. The Banaras Hindu University and Khairagarh University also conferred honorary doctorates on Birju Maharaj.

Padma Shri awardee social worker Shanti Devi passed away in Odisha. She was 88. She had established an ashram in Gobarapallin village in Rayagada district and worked tirelessly for the development and education of tribal girls.

India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 157.20 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 94.27%

With the administration of more than 39 lakh Doses (39,46,348) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 157.20 Cr (1,57,20,41,825) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

1,51,740 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,52,37,461.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 94.27%. 2,58,089 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload is presently at 16,56,341. Active cases constitute 4.43% of the country's total Positive Cases. The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 14.41% and the Daily Positivity rate also reported to be 19.65%.
