1. Alka Mittal appointed as first ever female Chairman, MD of ONGC
  • Alka Mittal, the Director for Human Resources (HR) at Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has been given the additional charge as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the company.
  • Alka Mittal is the first woman to head India's most valuable PSU ONGC.
  • Alka succeeds Subhash Kumar, former chairman and managing director of ONGC, who retired on December 31, 2021.


2. RBI releases Framework for Digital Payments in Offline Mode
  • To promote digital transactions the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released a Framework for Digital Payments allowing offline payments up to Rs 200 per transaction, subject to an overall limit of Rs 2,000.
  • An offline digital payment means a transaction which does not require internet or telecom connectivity. Under this new framework, such payments can be carried out face-to-face (proximity mode) using any channel or instrument like cards, wallets, mobile devices, etc. Such transactions would not require an Additional Factor of Authentication (AFA).


3. India achieves highest ever export of 37.29 billion dollars in December 2021
  • Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has said India's exports in December 2021 surged 37 percent on an annual basis to 37.29 billion US Dollars, which is the highest-ever monthly figure.


4. G Asok Kumar takes over as new DG of National Mission for Clean Ganga
  • IAS G Asok Kumar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti took over as the new Director General for the National Mission for Clean Ganga, Ministry of Jal Shakti.
  • G Asok Kumar is an officer of the Indian Administrative Service Telangana Cadre 1991 batch.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Manipur and Tripura today. PM Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of 22 Developmental Projects worth over 4,800 crore rupees in Imphal.

6. Uttar Pradesh govt to give two-day leave from school to children for COVID-19 vaccination
  • The Uttar Pradesh government has directed schools in the state to give two days' leave to children in the age group of 15 to 18 years who are being vaccinated against COVID-19.
  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the COVID-19 vaccination drive for children aged 15 to 18 from Civil Hospital in Lucknow on 3rd January 2022.

  • The Union Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the Heartfulness International Yoga academy today at Hyderabad.
  • The programs at the Yoga Academy is overseen by an international team with RYT500 Lead Yoga Trainers from India, Europe, Australia, Uzbekistan and the US and wish to extend their invitation to one and all so as to make global the true spirit of Yoga.


8. India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 146.70 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 98.13%
  • With the administration of close to 1 Cr Doses (99,27,797) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 146.70 Cr (146,70,18,464) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
  • 11,007 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,43,06,414.
  • Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.13%. 37,379 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
