1. Election Commission announces Assembly Elections 2022 schedule for Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh

Election Commission of India announced the schedule for General Election to Legislative Assemblies 2022 of Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Counting of votes for all 5 states will be held on March 10.
Voting for the assembly elections 2022 will be held in Uttar Pradesh from February 10 to March 7 in seven phases, while in Uttarakhand, Punjab and Goa, polling will be conducted in one-phase on February 14. Manipur will vote in two phases on February 27 and March 3.

2. Former RBI Governor Urjit Patel appointed as vice-president of AIIB

Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Urjit Patel has been appointed as a vice-president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). He will assume office from 1 February 2022.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a Beijing based multilateral development bank.

3. PM Modi announces 26th December as ‘Veer Baal Diwas’ to mark martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (9th Jan 2022) on the auspicious occasion of the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, has announced that starting this year, 26th December shall be observed as ‘Veer Baal Diwas’ to mark the martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji.

6. India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 151.57 Cr; Recovery Rate currently at 96.98%

With the administration of more than 89 lakh Doses (89,28,316) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 151.57 Cr (1,51,57,60,645) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.
40,863 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 3,44,53,603.
Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 96.98%. 1,59,632 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.
