3rd Edition of India-Japan Joint Military Exercise Dharma Guardian-2022 Culminates at Belgaum (Karnataka) 

Ex DHARMA GUARDIAN-2022, an annual exercise between Indian Army and Japanese Ground Self Defence Force which commenced on 27 February 2022 at Foreign Training Node, Belgaum successfully culminated on 10 March 2022 after twelve days of intense joint military training, providing an unique opportunity of achieving synergy between Armed Forces of both the Nations which is focused towards strengthening the timeless bonds of India - Japan friendship. 

The exercise also provided a platform for professional and cultural learning as well as social interactions which in-turn broadened their horizon towards knowledge and cooperation aiming towards co-existence as one in the Indo-Pacific Region.

President Kovind appoints Justice Vipin Sanghi as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court 

In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President Ram Nath Kovind, is pleased to appoint the Shri Justice Vipin Sanghi, senior-most Judge of the Delhi High Court to perform the duties of the office of Chief Justice of that High Court, with effect from 13.03.2022, vide notifications dated 11.03.2022, Department of Justice (Appointments Division), Ministry of Law & Justice.


BJP retains power in UP, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur; AAP wins Punjab Assembly Polls 

BJP has retained power in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, while Aam Aadmi Party has swept Punjab assembly polls. In Uttar Pradesh, Bharatiya Janata Party has been given a historic second successive term in office.

The party has secured majority by winning 255 seats in 403-member Assembly. Its alliance partners Apna Dal (Soneylal) has won 12 seats, while Nishad has secured six seats.

Samajwadi Party has won in 111 seats. Its alliance partners Rashtriya Lok Dal has won eight while Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party six seats. Jansatta Dal Loktantrik has secured two seats.

Congress has won two seats while BSP just one. Results of all 403-constituencies have been declared in the state.


BIS signs MoU with IIT Roorkee for establishment of ‘BIS Standardization Chair Professor’ 

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Roorkee (IITR) on 10th March 2022 for establishment of ‘BIS Standardization Chair Professor’ at IIT Roorkee. This would be the first Standardization Chair established by BIS in an Institute for activities on Standardization and Conformity Assessment.

Background

The MoU would facilitate the research & development, teaching and training in the field of Standardization and Conformity Assessment in the country with focus on the areas of civil, electrical, mechanical, chemical, earthquake engineering, development and management of water resources and renewable energy projects, infrastructure development, medical biotechnology and nanotechnology, biotechnology, biomaterials, etc. 

This will also help in sensitizing students on how standards can encourage and facilitate innovation and will help in grooming students making them better prepared for their future professional challenges.


CCI approves acquisition of Prione Business Services by Amazon Asia-Pacific Resources 

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) approves acquisition of Prione Business Services Private Limited by Amazon Asia-Pacific Resources Private Limited.

The proposed combination pertains to the proposed acquisition of Seventy-Six percent of the equity shares of Prione Business Services Private Limited (Target) by Amazon Asia-Pacific Resources Private Limited (Acquirer).

Background

Acquirer is an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Amazon Inc. (ACI). ACI is the ultimate parent entity of the Amazon group. The Acquirer does not undertake any business activity in India. However, ACI, the ultimate parent company of the Acquirer, has certain indirect subsidiaries either registered in India or having business operations in India.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 179.72 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.70%

With the administration of more than 16.73 lakh Doses (16,73,515) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 179.72 Cr (1,79,72,00,515) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

6,208 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,24,26,328.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.70%. 4,194 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload is presently at 42,219. Active cases constitute 0.10% of the country's total Positive Cases. The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 0.55% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 0.52%.
