PM Modi participates in QUAD Leaders virtual Summit 2022    

QUAD Leaders virtual Summit 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in a virtual summit of Quad leaders, along with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

The QUAD Leaders will have an opportunity to continue their dialogue after the September 2021 Summit in Washington DC.

The QUAD leaders agreed on accelerating cooperation, with an objective to achieve concrete outcomes by the summit in Japan later this year.

QUAD Leaders' virtual Summit; Focus on developments in Indo-Pacific

India signs Host Country Agreement with ITU for establishment of Innovation Centre at New Delhi 

India signs Host Country Agreement with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) for establishment of Area Office & Innovation Centre at New Delhi.

The Agreement signed by 

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Communications and Houlin Zhao, Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) signed the Host Country Agreement (HCA) for the establishment of an Area Office & Innovation Centre of ITU in New Delhi.

Background 

International Telecommunication Union is the United Nations specialised agency for information and communication technologies – ICTs. ITU currently has a membership of 193 countries and over 900 private-sector entities and academic institutions.

The Area Office and Innovation Centre of ITU at New Delhi is expected to serve South Asian countries namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and India. The Host Country Agreement provides the legal and financial framework for establishment and operations of the Area Office.


97% of adult population in the country inoculated with first dose of COVID-19 vaccine: Health Ministry 

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has said that 97 percent of the adult population have been inoculated with the first dose of COVID 19 vaccine. In a tweet, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the nation is rapidly marching towards achieving 100 percent first dose mark.


RBI cancels the licence of Sarjeraodada Naik Shirala Sahakari Bank Maharashtra 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), vide order has cancelled the licence of Sarjeraodada Naik Shirala Sahakari Bank Ltd, Shirala, Dist. Sangli, Maharashtra.

Consequently, the bank ceases to carry on banking business, with effect from the close of business on March 02, 2022. The Commissioner for Cooperation and Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Maharashtra has also been requested to issue an order for winding up the bank and appoint a liquidator for the bank.


Arunachal Pradesh to get a Greenfield Airport in Hollongi 

Considering the importance of air connectivity to the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh, AAI has undertaken the work of constructing a Greenfield Airport in Hollongi, 15 Kms from Itanagar. With an estimated cost of Rs.645 crore, the project includes the development work i.e. construction of airport pavements, air side work, terminal Building and city side works.

Background 

The proposed airport is designed for operations of A-320 category of aircraft and future extension of Runway by 500m length to cater A-321 type of aircraft .With an area of 4100 sqm, the terminal building of the airport will be able to handle 200 passengers during peak hours. Equipped with eight check-in counters, the terminal building will have all modern passenger facilities.

Development Work is in full swing and almost 80% of airside work is completed. Progress of Construction of New Interim Terminal building is 30%. The airport is planned for operationalization on 15thAugust 2022.

The terminal will be an energy efficient building provisioned with a Rainwater Harvesting system and sustainable landscape. The development work also includes construction of ATC Tower cum Technical Block, Fire station, Medical Centre and other ancillary works.


Sarbananda Sonowal announces major healthcare boost for Mizoram 

The Union Minister of Ayush and Ports Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal announced a slew of measures to boost the AYUSH sector in Mizoram. The Minister, along with the Chief Minister of Mizoram, Zoramthanga, laid the foundation stones for six Ayush hospitals in Mizoram.

The three 50 bedded hospitals will be developed at Aizawl, Champai and Hnahthial in the state. The three 10 bedded hospitals will be developed at Khawzawl, Saitul and Hortoki in the state.


Ministry of Tourism starts Swadesh Darshan Awards in different categories, invites entries from States/UTs 

In order to acknowledge the efforts undertaken by the State Governments, Union Territory Administrations and various implementation agencies, the Ministry of Tourism has constituted Swadesh Darshan Awards in different categories. 

The awards will highlight best practices including achievement of planned objectives, innovative approach, adoption of sustainability principals in planning, design and operations, efficient project monitoring, ability to attract private investments in peripheral development and efforts undertaken to ensure optimal operations and maintenance etc.

To begin with, the Ministry of Tourism has decided to invite entries under the following categories

  1. Best Tourist Interpretation Centre
  2. Best Log Hut Facility
  3. Best MICE Facility
  4. Best Cafeteria
  5. Best Craft Haat/ Souvenir Shop facility
  6. Best Sound and Light Show
  7. Best Waterfront Development (Beach/ River/ Lake etc.)


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 178.29 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.64%

With the administration of more than 24.84 lakh Doses (24,84,412) vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 178.29 Cr (1,78,29,13,060) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

13,450 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,23,67,070.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.64%. 6,396 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

India’s Active Caseload is presently at 69,897. Active cases constitute 0.16% of the country's total Positive Cases. The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 0.90% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 0.69%.
