12th India-Nepal Joint Working Group (JWG) on Border Management held on 15-16 June in New Delhi   

The 12th India-Nepal Joint Working Group (JWG), which discusses several issues related to Border Management and security matters, was held in New Delhi on 15-16 June.

Indian Delegation 

The Indian Delegation was led by the Joint Secretary (Border Management) in the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Nepali side was led by the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal, during the two-day talks.

Discussion 

The two sides reviewed the decisions taken in the last JWG held on February 10 -11, 2015 in Pokhara, Nepal. They also deliberated on issues related to trans-border criminal activities, strengthening of border infrastructure, empowerment and capacity building of various security related institutions, preventing/curbing terrorist and criminal activities amongst others. 

The Joint Working Group reviewed the Border District Coordination Committee (BDCC) meetings held earlier and also the progress made on the signing of the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty, Extradition Treaty and other outstanding MoUs to be signed between the two sides.

Next India-Nepal Joint Working Group (JWG) 

The Nepalese delegation extended an invitation to the Indian delegation for the next JWG to be held in Nepal next year.

Assam becomes 36th State/UT to implement One Nation One Ration Card 

Assam government has implemented One Nation One Ration Card in the state, with this Assam has become the 36th state/UT to implement One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC).

Presently the Government has successfully implemented the ONORC scheme in all 36 States/UTs, making food security portable across the country.

During the last two years of COVID-19 pandemic, ONORC plan has significantly contributed in ensuring subsidized food grains to NFSA (National Food Security Act) beneficiaries, especially migrant beneficiaries. This is one-of-its-kind Citizen Centric initiative in the country, which is swiftly implemented in a short-span of time covering about 80 Crore beneficiaries, after being initiated in August 2019.

The objective of this beneficiary centric high-impact program is to empower all NFSA beneficiaries to become AtmaNirbhar for their food security anywhere in the country, through portability of their existing ration cards enabling them to seamlessly lift their entitled subsidized food grains (in part or full) from any Fair Price Shop of their choice. This also enables their family members to lift balance/required amount of food grains on the same ration card at their native/ any place from the FPS of their choice.


Rajnath Singh hold bilateral talks with his Australian counterpart in New Delhi 

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will hold bilateral talks with Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Richard Marles in New Delhi on June 22, 2022 (Today).

Background 

During the bilateral talks, the two Ministers will review the defence cooperation between the two countries and explore new initiatives to further strengthen bilateral engagements. They will also exchange views on regional and global issues of shared interest.

Richard Marles Defense Minister of Australia on a four-day official visit to India 

Mr Richard Marles reached Goa on June 20, 2022 on the first leg of his four-day visit to India. He visited Goa Shipyard Limited today and will be visiting INS Hansa later in the day during his stay in Goa.


Indian Navy, Directorate General of Shipping signs MoU for transition of Indian Navy Personnel to Merchant Navy 

Indian Navy and Directorate General of Shipping signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for transition of Indian Navy Personnel to Merchant Navy to benefit personnel retiring Indian Navy and provide them opportunity to work on Merchant Ships.

These Schemes enable smooth transition of the retiring Indian Navy Personnel into Merchant Navy by acquiring necessary certification to work on Merchant Ships in accordance with the Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping Convention of International Maritime Organisation.

The MoU Signed by 

To implement these schemes, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, AVSM, NM, Chief of Personnel on behalf of Indian Navy and Amitabh Kumar, Director General of Shipping, on behalf of Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Ports Shipping and Waterways, Govt. of India.


Skill India organizes Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela in 10 districts of Odisha 

To improve job opportunities and provide practical training, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) organized the Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela across 10 districts in Odisha. Opportunities for apprenticeship training in more than 500+ trades across 36 sectors were offered to the participants.

Participate by  

Over 100 companies participated in the fair to provide employment opportunities to individuals who had 5th–12th-grade pass certificates, a skill training certificate, an ITI Diploma, or a graduate degree. The aspiring apprentices were given several choices of trades, including locally relevant job roles such as welder, electrician, beautician, mechanic and more.

Aims

This program aims to encourage employers to hire apprentices from these targeted districts and assist them in identifying the right job roles while building their potential through robust skill training. In addition, candidates will receive certificates recognized by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), ensuring increased employability, giving them an opportunity to become entrepreneurs in their respective domains.


Presidential Election 2022: Former Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu to be NDA candidate 

16th Presidential Election 2022Former Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu will be the BJP-led NDA's candidate for the presidential election.

This information was shared by BJP President JP Nadda.

The opposition has announced former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha as its candidate for the presidential election. Opposition parties announced his name after their meeting in New Delhi.

The voting for presidential elections will be held on 18th of next month. The notification for the election will be issued on June 15 and the last date for filing nominations will be 29th of this month. The counting will be taken up on the 21st of July.

Indian women's Wrestling team wins Under-17 Asian Championship 2022

Indian women's Wrestling team has won five medals to claim Under-17 Asian Championship title with a total of eight gold at Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

India lifted the title with a total of 235 points from eight golds, one silver and one bronze. Japan had to be content with the runners-up trophy with 143 points and Mongolia finished third with 138 points.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 196.45 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.60%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 196.45 Cr (1,96,45,99,906) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.58 Cr (3,58,99,199) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 81,687. Active cases now constitute 0.19% of the country's total Positive Cases. 12,249 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.60%. 9,862 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,27,25,055.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 2.90% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 3.94%.
