Cabinet approves revival package of BSNL worth Rs 1.64 lakh Cr 

To make BSNL financially viable, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the revival package of BSNL amounting to Rs 1.64 Lakh Cr.

Revival measures approved by the Cabinet focus on infusing fresh capital for upgrading BSNL services, allocating spectrum, de-stressing its balance sheet, and augmenting its fiber network by merging Bharat Broadband Nigam Limited (BBNL) with BSNL.

Key Points: Upgrading BSNL services 

Administrative allotment of Spectrum: To improve existing services and provide 4G services, BSNL will be allotted Spectrum in 900/1800 MHz band administratively at the cost of Rs 44,993 Cr through equity infusion. With this spectrum, BSNL will be able to compete in the market and provide high speed data using their vast network including in rural areas.

Financial support for capex: To promote indigenous technology development, BSNL is in process of deploying Atmanirbhar 4G technology stack. To meet the projected capital expenditure for next 4 years, the Government will fund a capex of Rs 22,471 Cr. Cabinet approves signing of guarantee for hosting FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2022 in India 

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the Signing of Guarantees for hosting Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Under 17 Women's World Cup 2022 in India.

FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2022 is scheduled to be held in India between 11th and 30th October 2022.

The seventh edition of the biennial youth tournament will be the first-ever FIFA women's competition to be hosted by India. Carrying on the positive legacy from the FIFA Under-17 Men's World Cup 2017, the nation is preparing for a seminal moment for women's football when the best young female footballers from across the world will be showcasing their skills to lift the coveted trophy.

Background

The FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup is the world championship for female players under or upto the age of 17, organized by FIFA. The event started in 2008 and is traditionally held in even-numbered years.

The 6th edition of the event was held in Uruguay from 13th November to 1st December, 2018. Spain is the current champion of FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup. FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup India 2022 will be the 7th edition of the tournament in which 16 teams, including India, will participate. The AIFF has proposed holding of the competition matches in 3 venues namely; (a) Bhubaneshwar; (b) Navi Mumbai and (c) Goa. India successfully hosted the FIFA Under-17 Men's World Cup India-2017 at 6 different venues namely New Delhi, Guwahati, Mumbai, Goa, Kochi and Kolkata in the country from 6th to 28th October, 2017.


Cabinet approves MoU between India and United Kingdom (UK) 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was apprised of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) and University of Reading (UoR), United Kingdom (UK) for collaboration in the field of agriculture and rural development in developing countries. The MoU was signed in March, 2022.

This MoU will help NIRDPR faculty in acquiring and widening their knowledge, and develop an international professional network in agriculture, nutrition and rural development.

Both the institutes together can bring a considerable amount of research expertise in agricultural economics, rural development, livelihoods and nutrition studies that is required for the emerging inter-disciplinary area of research and capacity building.


Judicial Officer Rajesh Sekhri appointed as Judge of J&K and Ladakh High Court 

Judicial Officer Rajesh Sekhri: The President of India has appointed Rajesh Sekhri, Judicial Officer of Jammu and Kashmir, as a judge in the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court at present has 11 judges including Chief Justice Pankaj Mitthal.

The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on July 14, 2022 had approved the proposal for elevation of Rajesh Sekhri, Judicial Officer, as a Judge in the Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.......Read More

India’s overall exports USD 64.9 billion in June 2022 

The overall (merchandise plus services) exports increased from USD 52.8 billion in June 2021 to USD 64.9 billion in June 2022. The overall (merchandise plus services) imports increased from USD 52.9 billion in June 2021 to USD 82.4 billion in June 2022.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 202.79 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.47%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 202.79 Cr (2,02,79,61,722) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.86 Cr (3,86,74,262) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 1,45,026. Active cases now constitute 0.33% of the country's total Positive Cases. 18,313 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.47%. 20,742 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,32,67,571.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 4.57% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 4.31%.
