Pranay Kumar Verma appointed as next High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh   

Seasoned diplomat and IFS officer Pranay Kumar Verma has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh. Pranay Kumar Verma is a 1994 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.

Pranay Kumar Verma is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Vietnam. Earlier in 2019, he was appointed as the Ambassador of India to Vietnam. Pranay Kumar Verma succeeded Vikram Doraiswamy, the current High Commissioner.

Tamil Nadu govt rolls out Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme for primary school students 

After the mid-day meal scheme, the Tamil Nadu government has now launched the Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme, under which free breakfast will be provided to government school students from class 1 to 5.

The first phase of Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme will be implemented at a cost of Rs 33.56 crore in over 1,500 government schools across the state.

Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme Menu 

The breakfast menu will change every day. Various varieties of Upma, Khichdi, Pongal will be served to the primary government school students and on Friday it will be Rava Kesari or Semiya Kesari.

The Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu is a commendable scheme, taking inspiration from this the governments of other states should also start such a welfare scheme in their state which will make life easier for the poor people.


RBI imposes ₹1 lakh penalty on The Moirang Primary Co-operative Bank Manipur 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹1.00 lakh (Rupees One lakh only) on The Moirang Primary Co-operative Bank Ltd., Moirang (the bank), for non-compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) directions, 2016 issued by RBI.

Background

A Scrutiny of the bank in the matter of exchange of Specified Bank Notes, revealed, inter alia, non-compliance with above mentioned directions issued by RBI. In furtherance to the same, a notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed for failure to comply with the directions issued by RBI. 

After considering the bank’s reply to the notice, and examination of additional submissions, RBI concluded that the aforesaid charges of non-compliance with RBI directions warranted imposition of monetary penalty.

PM Modi lays foundation stone of IFSCA headquarters at GIFT City in Gandhinagar 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the headquarters building of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) in GIFT City, Gandhinagar.

PM Modi also launched the India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX), India’s first International Bullion Exchange in GIFT-IFSC. He also launched the NSE IFSC-SGX Connect.

Mozambique's parliamentary delegation meets on the President Murmu 

A Parliamentary Delegation from Mozambique led by Ms Esperanca Laurinda Francisco Nhiuane Bias, Speaker of the Assembly of Mozambique, called on President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

President Draupadi Murmu noted that India and Mozambique enjoy close friendly relations with regular exchange of high-level visits between the two countries.


Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh approves enhancement of financial aid to orphaned 

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh has approved the enhancement of the financial aid to the orphaned children of Ex-servicemen (ESM) from Rs 1000 per month to Rs. 3000 per month. This will enable orphaned children to lead a better life with respect and honour.

Background  

Kendriya Sainik Board (KSB) runs this scheme which is funded from Raksha Mantri Ex-Servicemen Welfare Fund (RMEWF). It is a subset of the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund. 

The present scheme is meant for the orphaned child who is a legitimate offspring aged below 21 years in the case of son or unmarried daughter of any Ex-Serviceman. The applications for availing benefits under this scheme are recommended by respective Zila Sainik Board (ZSB).

India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 203.94 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.48%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 203.94 Cr (2,03,94,33,480) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.89 Cr (3,89,53,795) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 1,43,384. Active cases now constitute 0.33% of the country's total Positive Cases. 20,408 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.48%. 20,958 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,33,30,442.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 4.92% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 5.05%.
