CWG-2022: Indian Judo star Shushila wins silver medal and Vijay Kumar clinches bronze
Commonwealth Games 2022: Judoka Shushila Devi Likmabam won the silver medal in the women’s 48kg category at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games (CWG 2022). On the other hand, Judo star Vijay Kumar Yadav clinched bronze in the men 60 kg category.
India’s medal tally reaches to 8 with 3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.
About Commonwealth Games 2022 Silver Medalist Shushila Devi
Judoka Likmabam Sushila Devi belongs to Heingang Mayai Leikai located in Imphal East district. Born in 1995, Sushila is the second oldest among four children. Right from the very beginning, Sushila showed signs of a champion excelling in events ranging from local to the prestigious Commonwealth Games. Her uncle, Likmabam Dinit who has been an international Judo player, took Sushila to the Khuman Lampak in December 2002.
In Khuman, Sushila started receiving training at a very young age. Sushila also trained under Sabitri Chanu of Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Special Area Games (SAG) Khuman Lampak.Sushila became a known name after she won a silver medal at 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. On July 05, she became the first Indian judoka to book a berth at the Tokyo Olympics.

Indian judoka Vijay Kumar Yadav claimed a bronze medal at the Asian Open in Hong Kong in 2018. He won the Commonwealth Championships in Walsall in 2019 and Jaipur in 2018.
Vijay Kumar Yadav is multiple Indian champion in seniors and juniors. He won a Lakshman state award in 2019. As a cadet Vijay Kumar Yadav took medals at Asian Cadet Championships and as a senior he was fifth in 2017. He competes in the IJF World Tour. He captured a bronze medal at the Asian Open in Hong Kong in 2019.
