Reserve Bank of India cancels the licence of Deccan Urban Co-operative Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the licence of Deccan Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd., Vijayapur, Karnataka. Consequently, the bank ceases to carry on banking business, with effect from the close of business on August 18, 2022.

The Reserve Bank cancelled the license of the bank as 

  • The bank does not have adequate capital and earning prospects.
  • The continuance of the bank is prejudicial to the interests of its depositors.
  • The bank with its present financial position would be unable to pay its present depositors in full.
  • Public interest would be adversely affected if the bank is allowed to carry on its banking business any further.


RBI imposes ₹5,93,000 penalty on Obopay Mobile Technology India Private Ltd 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed monetary penalty of ₹5,93,000/- (Rupees five lakh ninety-three thousand only) on Obopay Mobile Technology India Private Limited for non-compliance with certain provisions of the Master Directions on Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) and the Master Direction – Know Your Customer (KYC).

Background

It was observed that the entity was non-compliant with the directions issued by RBI on KYC requirements. Accordingly, notice was issued to the entity advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed for non-compliance with the directions.


RBI imposes ₹15 lakh penalty on The Akola Urban Co-operative Bank 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹15.00 lakh (Rupees Fifteen lakh only) on The Akola Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd., Akola, Maharashtra (the bank) for non-compliance with RBI directions on ‘Income Recognition, Asset Classification, Provisioning and Other Related Matters- UCBs’ (IRAC norms).

Background

The statutory inspection of the bank conducted by RBI with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2020, and examination of the Risk Assessment Report and all related correspondence pertaining to the same, revealed, inter alia, that the bank had failed to comply with RBI directions on IRAC norms.

Union Minister for Highways and Road Transport Nitin Gadkari launched India's first E-Double Decker air-conditioned bus in Mumbai. Switch mobility limited a subsidiary of Ashok Leyland has manufactured this unique electric double-decker bus called Switch EiV 22.


44th Executive Committee meeting of NMCG held 

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) organised the 44th meeting of the Executive Committee yesterday under the chairmanship of G. Asok Kumar, Director General, NMCG.

In the meeting, 13 projects pertaining to geo-mapping in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and NCT of Delhi, sewerage management in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal, river front development works in Uttarakhand, wetland conservation, Arth Ganga and refurbishment of gates of Belia Circular Canal in Kolkata were approved. The estimated cost of these projects is around Rs. 818 crores.


Delhi HC orders appointment of committee to handle affairs of Indian Olympic Association  

The Delhi High Court has directed the constitution of a three-member Committee of Administrators to handle the affairs of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

The three-member committee comprises former Supreme Court judge Justice Anil R Dave, former Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi, and former External Affairs Ministry secretary Vikas Swarup.

The court directed the executive committee of IOA to forthwith hand over the charge to the newly appointed committee.


Minister Sarbananda Sonowal embarks on an official visit to Iran/UAE to visit 

Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal embarked on an official visit to Iran and UAE beginning August 18, 2022.

During his visit, Sonowal will be visiting the Shahid Beheshti Port of Chabahar, Iran and UAE including Jebel Ali Port. Chabahar Port is Country's first overseas port project. The development of Chabahar Port Project is a prestigious project of national importance.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 208.95 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.58%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 208.95 Cr (2,08,95,79,722) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 3.98 Cr (3,98,46,763) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 1,01,343. Active cases now constitute 0.23% of the country's total Positive Cases. 12,608 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.58%. 16,251 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,36,70,315.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 4.20% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 3.48%.
