Prime Minister Modi to unveil 28ft statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on 8th Sep 2022 

A grand statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, will be unveiled by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 8th of September 2022 near India Gate in New Delhi. The jet black granite statue, measuring a total of 28 ft. will be placed under the Canopy near India Gate.

The grand statue of Netaji being unveiled has been carved from a monolithic block of granite weighing 280 MT. After 26,000 man hours of intense artistic endeavor, the granite monolith was chiseled to produce a statue weighing 65 MT. The statue is completely hand sculpted using traditional techniques and modern tools.


Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Minister Umesh Katti passes away at 61  

Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Minister Umesh Katti passed away due to cardiac arrest at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was 61. Umesh Katti is an eight time MLA from Hukkeri in Belagavi district, Karnataka.

Umesh Katti had served in the cabinets headed by Chief Ministers JH Patel, BS Yediyurappa, DV Sadananda Gowda and Jagadish Shetter.


Suresh Raina announces retirement from all formats of cricket

Indian Cricketer Suresh Raina has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. In a tweet, Raina said, it has been an absolute honour to represent the country and Uttar Pradesh.

Suresh Raina represented India in 18 tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20s in an international career.


61st edition of Subroto Cup Football Tournament to be held from 6 to 15 Sep 2022

The 61st edition of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament began after a gap of two years, at the BR Ambedkar Stadium in Delhi to be held from September 6 to 15.

The tournament, organised by the Subroto Mukherjee Sports Education Society (SMSES) along with the Indian Air Force.

15 matches were played today across four stadiums - B.R Ambedkar, Tejas Park, Subroto Park and Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. There are 32 teams divided into eight groups in the Boys U-14 category. The topper in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals.

A total of 92 schools representing 25 States and Union Territories of India have qualified across the three (U-14 Boys, U-17 Girls, U-17 Boys) categories.


Cabinet approves MoU between India and UAE on cooperation in the field of Education   

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Education, Government of India and the Ministry of Education of the Government of United Arab Emirates on cooperation in the field of Education.

The objective of the MoU is to further strengthen our ongoing educational collaboration between India and UAE and widen the scope of our engagements.

Background 

An MoU was signed in 2015 with UAE in the field of Education which expired in 2018. In 2019, at a meeting between Education Ministers of the two countries, UAE side proposed to sign a new MoU. The new MoU incorporates changes brought in by the National Education Policy 2020 in India’s education ecosystem.


Aims

This MoU aims to promote Exchange of Information Education, Capacity Development of Technical and vocational Education and Training (TVET) teaching staff, Facilitation of academic collaboration between Higher Education Institutions in both the countries for offering Twinning, Joint Degree and Dual Degree Programmes and any such other areas agreed upon.


Cabinet approves MoU between India and United Kingdom on mutual recognition of academic qualifications 

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi granted ex post facto approval for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on mutual recognition of academic qualifications signed on 25.04.2022.

Mutual Recognition of Qualifications between India and UK aims to promote academic collaboration and student mobility.

Aims

The MoU aims to facilitate the mutual recognition of educational qualifications, periods of study undertaken, documents related to academic degrees/qualifications and accreditation by educational institutions within the two countries. Professional degrees like Engineering, Medicine, Nursing and Para-Medical Education, Pharmacy, Law, and Architecture are out of the purview of this MoU.



Cabinet approves MoU between India and Maldives on cooperation in the field of Disaster Management 

The Union Cabinet, Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ex-post facto approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 2nd August, 2022 between the National Disaster Management Authority of the Republic of India and the National Disaster Management Authority of the Republic of Maldives on cooperation in the field of Disaster Management.

The MoU seeks to put in place a system, whereby both India and Maldives will be benefited from the Disaster Management mechanisms of each other and it will help in strengthening the areas of preparedness, response and capacity building in the field of Disaster Management.


Cabinet approves Kochi Metro Rail Project Phase-II 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has approved the implementation of the Kochi metro Rail Phase II of Kochi Metro Rail Project from JLN Stadium to Infopark via Kakkanad, at a cost of Rs.1,957.05 crore, with a length of 11.17 Kms and 11 stations.

Phase-I in Kochi from Aluva to Petta, covering a length of 25.6 Km with 22 stations at an estimated completion cost of Rs.5181.79 crore is fully operational.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 213.91 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.70%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 213.91 Cr (2,13,91,49,934) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4.05 Cr (4,05,07,953) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 50,594. Active cases now constitute 0.11% of the country's total Positive Cases. 5,379 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours. 

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.70%. 7,094 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,38,93,590.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 2.00% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 1.67%.
