6th India-Maldives Joint Staff Talks held in New Delhi

6th Joint Staff Talks (JST) between India and the Maldives were held in New Delhi on December 20, 2022. The meeting was conducted in a friendly, warm and extremely cordial atmosphere.

India holds first Joint Finance & Health Task Force meeting under G20 Presidency

The first Joint Finance and Health Task Force (JFHTF) meeting under India's G20 Presidency was held in virtual mode.

The meeting was attended by Finance and Health representatives from G20 and Invited Countries as well as International Organizations. The meeting was co-chaired by Italy and Indonesia. The 1st JFHTF enabled discussions on the mandates specified by the Bali Leaders’ Declaration.

Urban-20 (U20) event being organised under G20 presidency of India

Under the G20 presidency of India from December 01, 2022 to November 30, 2023, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is organizing Urban 20 event.

Key Highlights

In the process to organize the Urban 20 event, Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel unveiled the logo, website, and social media handles of Urban-20 on December 19, 2022. During the event, the Chief Minister highlighted the glorious history of the state of Gujarat and said Dholavira and Lothal, the two world heritage sites represent the Harappan and Indus Valley civilization. Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs Shri Hardeep S. Puri joined the event virtually.

Officials of the Government of India, Gujarat, and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and representatives of C40 and UCLG also participated in the event.

Indian Navy gets fifth Scorpene Class submarine INS Vagir

The fifth Scorpene submarine, Vagir of Project - 75 Kalvari Class submarines has been delivered to the Indian Navy by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai.

Project-75 includes the indigenous construction of six submarines of Scorpene design. These submarines are being constructed at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) Mumbai, under collaboration with Naval Group, France.

RBI imposes ₹30.85 lakh penalty on The Delhi State Cooperative Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹30.85 lakh (Rupees Thirty lakh and Eighty-five Thousand only) on The Delhi State Cooperative Bank Ltd., New Delhi for non-compliance with the Reserve Bank of India (Know Your Customer (KYC)) Directions, 2016 as well as directions issued by RBI on ‘Housing Finance’ and for non-compliance with directions issued by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) on ‘Frauds - Guidelines for Classification, Reporting and Monitoring’.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in a series of tweets informed that the upgradation and rehabilitation work of NH-25 Extension to 2-lane with paved shoulder of Ghagaria-Munabao section of District Barmer in Rajasthan has been approved under EPC mode at a cost of Rs.235.15 crore.

EPFO adds 12.94 lakh members in the month of October 2022

The provisional payroll data of EPFO released on 20th December, 2022 highlights that EPFO has added 12.94 lakh net members in the month of October, 2022. Year-on-year comparison of payroll data reflects an increase of 21,026 in net membership in October, 2022 as compared to the corresponding month during last year in 2021.

Of the total 12.94 lakh members added during the month, around 7.28 lakh new members have been covered under social security cover of EPFO for the first time. Among the new members, highest number was registered for age group of 18-21 years with 2.19 lakh members. This was followed by age group of 22-25 years with 1.97 lakh members. Out of total new members joined, approximately 57.25% are from the age-group of 18-25 years of age.

Gender-wise analysis

Gender-wise analysis of payroll data indicates that enrolment of net female members has been 2.63 lakh in October, 2022. Out of this, 1.91 lakh females have joined EPFO for the first time which is around 72.73% of net female member addition during the month.

State-wise payroll figures

State-wise payroll figures highlight that month-on-month growing trend in net member addition was observed in states of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand etc. In terms of net payroll addition during the month, top five states constituted around 60.15% of the total net payroll addition among all age groups. The states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Delhi & Haryana have added approximately 7.78 lakh net members during the month.
