India assumes Presidency of G20 Summit for 2022-23 

India formally assumed the Presidency of G-20 Summit grouping for the period of one year. India’s G-20 presidency will work to promote this universal sense of oneness and hence India's theme is One Earth, One Family, One Future.

G20 Summit in India: Theme

The theme of India’s G20 Presidency - Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam or One Earth One Family One Future - is drawn from the ancient Sanskrit text of the Maha Upanishad. Essentially, the theme affirms the value of all life - human, animal, plant, and microorganisms and their interconnectedness on the planet Earth and in the wider universe.

About G20 Summit   

The G20 is an intergovernmental forum of the world’s major developed and developing economies. It comprises 19 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, USA, and the European Union.


RBI and Financial Services Agency, Japan exchange Letter of Cooperation 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Financial Services Agency (FSA), Japan exchanged letters of cooperation in the field of Central Counter Parties (CCPs) with the objective of improving mutual cooperation.

Key Highlights 

With this exchange of letters, RBI and FSA are committed to deepen relations between the two countries and strengthen the exchange of information.

RBI and FSA also expressed their willingness to hold a dialogue or exchange views about matters of common interest and concerns as appropriate. The letters confirm the interest of both the jurisdictions in enhancing cooperation in line with their respective laws and regulations.

The letters will also provide a strong foundation for promoting mutual understanding and cooperation pertaining to CCP activities in a cross-border context. The cooperation will be mutually beneficial and ensure soundness of the financial markets in both the jurisdictions.


RBI imposes ₹20 lakh penalty on Indian Mercantile Co-operative Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated November 24, 2022, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹20.00 lakh (Rupees twenty lakh only) on Indian Mercantile Co-operative Bank Ltd., Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh for non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI on ‘Income Recognition, Asset Classification, Provisioning and Other Related Matters’ (IRAC norms).


GST Revenue collection for November 2022 crosses 1.45 lakh crore; records increase of 11% Year-on-Year  

Finance Ministry: The gross GST (Goods and Services Tax) revenue collection over ₹1,45,867 crore in November 2022, which is a good sign for the Indian economy.

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of November 2022 is ₹1,45,867 crore of which CGST is ₹25,681 crore, SGST is ₹32,651 crore, IGST is ₹77,103 crore (including ₹38,635 crore collected on import of goods) and Cess is ₹10,433 crore (including ₹817 crore collected on import of goods).

The government has settled ₹33,997 crore to CGST and ₹28,538 crore to SGST from IGST as regular settlement. The total revenue of Centre and the States after regular settlements in the month of November 2022 is ₹59678 crore for CGST and ₹61189 crore for the SGST. In addition, Centre had also released ₹17,000 crore as GST compensation to States/UTs in November 2022. 

The revenues for the month of November 2022 are 11% higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year, which itself was Rs. 1.31,526 crore. During the month, revenues from import of goods were 20% higher and the revenues from domestic transactions (including import of services) were 8% higher than the revenues from these sources during the same month last year.


12th edition of India-Singapore Joint Exercise Agni Warrior held in Maharashtra 

The 12th Edition of Exercise Agni Warrior, a bilateral exercise between the Singapore & Indian Army, which had commenced on 13 November 2022 concluded at Field Firing Ranges, Devlali (Maharashtra) on 30 November 2022.

Exercise Agni Warrior, involved showcasing joint firepower planning, execution and use of New Generation Equipment by the Artillery arm of both armies. 

India-Singapore Exercise Agni Warrior: Aims 

The exercise achieved its aim of enhancing mutual understanding of drills & procedures and improving interoperability between the two armies. The closing event was witnessed by Mr Wong Wie Kuen, High Commissioner of Singapore to India & Lieutenant General S Harimohan Iyer, Commandant, School of Artillery along with other dignitaries from Singapore & serving officers from both armies.

In a major boost to further strengthening the Coast Guard Region East, 840 Sqn (CG), an Indian Coast Guard Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mk-III squadron, was commissioned by DG VS Pathania at ICG Air Station, Chennai on November 30, 2022

Indian Coast Guard Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Mk-III 

The ALH Mk-III helicopters, indigenously manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), feature state-of-the-art equipment including advanced RADAR as well as Electro optical sensors, Shakti engines, full glass cockpit, high-intensity searchlight, advanced communication systems, automatic identification system as well as search-and-rescue homer. This feature enables the helicopter to undertake maritime reconnaissance as well as carry out search and rescue at extended ranges while operating from ships, both by day and night.

Jyotiraditya Scindia Launches Digi Yatra for Three Airports in the Country

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia launched Digi Yatra from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi for three airports in the country, namely New Delhi, Varanasi and Bengaluru.

Digi Yatra is conceived to achieve contactless, seamless processing of passengers at airports based on Facial Recognition Technology (FRT). 

Key Highlights

Digi Yatra in the first phase, will be launched at 7 airports. However, it has been initially launched at 3 airports i.e., Delhi, Bengaluru and Varanasi, to be followed by 4 airports namely Hyderabad, Kolkata, Pune, and Vijayawada by March 2023. Later it would be implemented across various airports in the country. The service is presently being launched for domestic flights passengers only. Digi Yatra App is available on both IOs and android.

With Digi Yatra, India is setting a new global benchmark for a seamless, hassle free and health risk free process at airports.
