PM Modi to inaugurate Aadi Mahotsav in New Delhi 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate "Aadi Mahotsav", the mega National Tribal Festival, on 16th February at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi.

Key Highlights 

The Aadi Mahotsav, which celebrates the spirit of tribal culture, crafts, cuisine, commerce and traditional art, is an annual initiative of Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation Limited (TRIFED) under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. This year, it is being organised from 16 to 27 February at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi.

The programme will showcase the rich and diverse heritage of tribes from across the country in over 200 stalls at the venue. Around 1000 tribal artisans will participate in the Mahotsav. Since 2023 is being celebrated as the International Year of Millets, along with usual attractions like handicrafts, handloom, pottery, jewellery etc., a special focus in the Mahotsav will be on showcasing Shree Anna grown by tribals.


Cabinet approves India and Chile MoU for cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied Sectors 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Chile for cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied sectors.

Background 

The MoU provides for cooperation in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. The main areas of cooperation envisaged are Agricultural policies for development of modern agriculture, Organic agriculture to facilitate the bilateral trade of organic products, as well as promote the exchange of policies aimed to develop organic production in both countries, Science and innovation to explore partnerships to promote innovation in the agricultural sector among Indian Institutes and Chilean institutes as well as collaborate to confront common challenges.

Under the MoU, a Chile-India Agricultural Working Group will be constituted which will be responsible for the supervision, review and assessment of the implementation of this MoU as well as for establishing frequent communication and coordination.

The MoU shall enter into force upon its signature and shall remain in force for a period of five years from the date of execution after which it shall be automatically renewed for a further period of 5 years.


Cabinet approves Vibrant Villages Programme scheme for the Financial Years 2022-23 to 2025-26 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Centrally Sponsored Scheme- “Vibrant Villages Programme” (VVP) for the Financial Years 2022-23 to 2025-26 with financial allocation of Rs. 4800 Crore.

The scheme will provide funds for development of essential infrastructure and creation of livelihood opportunities in 19 Districts and 46 Border blocks 4 states and 1 UT along the northern land border of the country which will help in achieving inclusive growth and retaining the populatiion in the border areas. In the first phase 663 Villages will be taken up in the programme.


Cabinet approves India and South Africa MoU for cooperation in Disability Sector 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and South Africa for cooperation in the  Disability Sector.

The bilateral Memorandum of Understanding will encourage cooperation between the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of the Republic of India and Government of South Africa through joint initiatives in the disability sector. It will strengthen bilateral ties between India and South Africa. Specific proposals for cooperation between the two countries, as mutually agreed upon, will be taken up for implementation during the period of validity of the Memorandum of Understanding.


Cabinet approves signing of MoU between ICAI and ICAEW 

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (ICAEW).

The MoU is to provide recognition of the qualification, training of each others members and admit the members in good standing by prescribing a bridging mechanism on the prevailing terms and conditions. The Parties to this MoU will provide each other with the information on material changes to their qualifying/admission requirements, CPD policy, exemptions and any other relevant matters.

ICAI collaboration with ICAEW will bring a lot of professional opportunities for Indian CAs in UK and also for Indian CAs who are looking for the global professional opportunities in UK.


Envoys of five nations present credentials to President Droupadi Murmu 

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu accepted credentials from the Ambassadors of Lithuania, Lao PDR, Greece and Guatemala and High Commissioner of Kingdom of Eswatini at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

First G20 Culture Group (CWG) meeting to be held in Khajuraho from 22nd to 25th Feb 

The Ministry of Culture is organising the First G20 Culture Group (CWG) meet in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh from 22nd to 25th February 2023.

An ancient city, Khajuraho is known for its majestic temples and elaborate sculptures. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Khajuraho Group of Monuments, was constructed by the Chandela Dynasty between 950-1050 AD.

The Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, along with Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhanlaid the foundation stone of Rewa Airport in Madhya Pradesh.

About Rewa Airport in Madhya Pradesh

Rewa Airfield has a runway of 1400 metres with a small building of 150 sq. metres and 61.95 acres of land. It was owned by the State Government of Madhya Pradesh. The State Government has handed over the existing airport to the Airport Authority of India for the revival and construction of facilities to operate 19-seater aircraft.

Akshdeep Singh, Priyanka Gowswami qualify for World Athletics Championships and Paris Olympics 2024.

Akshdeep Singh hogged the limelight as he met the qualifying standards for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest later this year and next year’s Olympic Games in Paris as he broke the National Record in the men 20km event, clocking 1:19:55.00 in the 10th National Race Walking Championships on the Morabadi Road.

Priyanka Goswami who won the women’s 20km in 1:28:50.00 was the other athlete to attain the World Championships and Paris 2024 qualifying standard.
