Indian Navy’s operational level exercise TROPEX 2023 culminates in Arabian Sea 

Indian Navy’s major operational level exercise TROPEX 2023 culminated this week in the Arabian Sea. The exercise was conducted across the expanse of the Indian Ocean Region over a period of four months. 

Indian Navy said, the TROPEX exercise witnessed the participation of approximately 70 Indian Navy ships, six submarines, and over 75 aircraft.

The culmination of TROPEX 23 brings to an end an intense operational phase for the Indian Navy that commenced in November 2022. As part of the final Joint Phase, the Raksha Mantri spent a day at sea onboard the newly commissioned Indigenous Aircraft Carrier Vikrant on 06 March 2023.


Ram Chandra Paudel elected as the President of Nepal 

Ram Chandra Paudel of Nepali Congress has been elected as the President of Nepal. According to the Election Commissioner, Podel secured 33,802 electoral votes, while his rival Subhash Chandra Nembwang secured 15,518 electoral votes.

Poudel was the candidate supported by the eight-party coalition led by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, while Nembang was the presidential candidate of the CPN-UML party.


Veteran actor Satish Kaushik passes away at 66 

Veteran actor and director Satish Kaushik passed away. He was 66. Satish has acted in more than 100 films.

Born on April 13, 1956, in Haryana, Satish Kaushik acted in theatre before finding his break in Bollywood. An alumnus of the National School of Drama and the Film and Television Institute of India.


Pune to host fourth Y20 Consultation Meeting on 11th March 2023 

The fourth Y20 consultation meeting will be held in Pune on the 11th of March 2023 at the Symbiosis International University (SIU), Lavale in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.

Youth 20 (Y20) is an official consultation forum for youth from all G20 member countries to be able to dialogue with each other.

Fourth Y20 consultation meeting: Theme

The theme for the fourth Y20 Consultation is ‘Peace building and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War- the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. India bags Golden & Silver Star at International Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2023 

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India , has bagged the Golden & Silver Star at The International ‘Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2023’ in ‘TV/Cinema Commercials International and Country International’ Category at ITB, Berlin 2023.

The awards were received by Arvind Singh, Secretary (Tourism) Government of India on 08th March 2023 at ITB, Berlin being held from the 7th to 9h March 2023.

International Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 

The Golden City Gate Tourism Multi-media Awards are given annually in various categories related to the Tourism and Hospitality sectors. The ‘Golden City Gate’ is a creative multi-media international competition for countries, cities, regions and hotels. 

The entries received for the awards are judged by an international jury comprising film and tourism experts. The annual award ceremony takes place at ITB Berlin, the world’s leading tourism trade show.


MoHUA launches first edition of Women Icons Leading Swachata (WINS) Awards 2023 

To highlight the impact of women in sanitation and waste management, the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep Singh Puri announced the ‘Women Icons Leading Swachhata’ (WINS) Awards 2023 on 7th March 2023, on the eve of International Women’s Day.

Aims  

The WINS Awards 2023 aim to recognize, celebrate and disseminate inspiring and exemplary initiatives in urban sanitation and waste management by women-led organizations and individual women.

Key Highlights 

The applications are open from 8th March to 5th April 2023. Applications for the Awards are open to (i) Self-Help Groups (SHGs) (ii) Micro-enterprises, (iii) Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), (iv) Startups and (v) Individual Women Leaders/Swachhata champions.

Applications will be considered under the thematic areas of (i) Management of Community/Public Toilets (ii) Septic Tanks Cleaning Services (iii) Treatment Facilities (Used Water/Septage) (iv) Municipal Water collection and /or Transportation (v) Operation of Material Recovery Facilities (vi) Waste to Wealth products (vii) Treatment Facilities (Solid Waste Management) (viii) IEC, Training, Capacity Building (ix) Technology and Intervention and (x) Others. 


Two-day 'Millet Fair cum Exhibition' held in Madurai, Tamil Nadu 

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India organized a two-day ‘Millet Fair cum Exhibition’ in Madurai, Tamil Nadu from 6-7 March, 2023. 

The event was organised as part of the Millet Mahotsav series, in collaboration with the Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Agri Business, Government of Tamil Nadu. 

Aims   

The two-day event was aimed at providing the micro food processing enterprises with a platform to interact with leading industry players through B2B and B2C interactions organized during the Buyer Seller Meet. Participants interacted with organizations to get a deeper understanding of marketing, e-commerce, quality parameters for online and offline retail, etc. 


PM Modi & Australian PM Anthony Albanese inaugurate friendship hall of fame in Ahmedabad 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart Antony Albanese watched the first play of the fourth cricket test match of the Border Gavaskar trophy in Ahmedabad.

Both Prime Ministers inaugurated the friendship hall of fame which showcases the rich history of India-Australia Cricket Contests. Earlier, both the leaders handed over test caps to their respective test captains and cheered the players.

The event was organised to commemorate the 75 years of cricket Friendship this year.

The winners of the 2023 Puraskar are Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) and the Lunglei Fire Station, Mizoram. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate the exhibition for showcasing the innovative ideas and initiatives, tools and technologies in the field of Disaster Risk Reduction .

NPDRR is a multi-stakeholder platform constituted by the Government of India to facilitate dialogue, sharing experiences, views, ideas, action-oriented research & explore opportunities in the area of Disaster Risk Reduction.


Khelo India Dus Ka Dum Tournament to start today

Khelo India Dus Ka Dum Tournament will start today. The opening ceremony will be held in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.

This is the first time that such a sports initiative is taking place to celebrate the international event and the Union Ministry has sanctioned a total budget of Rs 50 Lakh to conduct the tournament.

The tournament features 10 sports that will be held across 10 cities in the country. Close to 15000 women athletes are set to participate. 

Khelo India Dus Ka Dum Tournament: Aims

The main purpose of organising this tournament is to provide platform to the women athletes who were unable to participate in national/state level competitions and also ensure that competitive sports reaches untapped geographical areas.


Khelo India Dus Ka Dum Tournament: Key Highlights 

Top women athletes of the country including Indian hockey star Rani, boxer Nikhat Zareen and more have posted videos cheering for the participating girls and wishing them the best. Some of the prominent athletes will also be joining the program in selected locations while women achievers will also be felicitated. 

The sports disciplines that will be a part of the event include: Kho Kho, Wushu, Wrestling, Fencing, Archery, Swimming, Basketball, Judo, Athletics and Yogasana.
