India, US sign MoU on semiconductor Supply Chain and Innovation Partnership  

India and the United States signed A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on establishing semiconductor supply chain and innovation partnership under the framework of India – US Commercial Dialogue.

The India–US Commercial Dialogue 2023 held in New Delhi.

The MoU seeks to establish a collaborative mechanism between the two governments on Semiconductor Supply chain resiliency and diversification in view of US’s CHIPS and Science Act and India’s Semiconductor Mission.

India and US agree to launch Strategic Trade Dialogue

India and the US have agreed to launch a Strategic Trade Dialogue. It was decided during the meeting of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar and US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo in New Delhi yesterday.

The India-US Strategic Trade Dialogue will be led by Foreign Secretary from the Ministry of External Affairs of India and the Under Secretary, Bureau of Industry and Security in the US Department of Commerce.


PM Modi and his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese hold bilateral talks in New Delhi 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese held a delegation level bilateral talks in New Delhi.

During the first India-Australia Annual Summit, both the countries shared their commitment towards further deepening of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both the nations exchanged MoU for cooperation in sports and audio-visual co-production.


INS Trikand participate in International Maritime Exercise/Cutlass Express 2023  

INS Trikand participated in Sea Phase-I of the International Maritime Exercise/Cutlass Express 2023 (IMX/CE-23) held in the Gulf from 05 to 09 March 2023.

During the period, the ship exercised with naval units of Bahrain, Japan, Oman, Saudi Arabia, UAE, UK and USA with the common aim of enhancing maritime security, keeping shipping lanes open and ensuring safety of navigation.

ECI hosts 3rd International Conference on the theme 'Inclusive Elections and Elections Integrity' 

The Election Commission of India (ECI) hosted the 3rd International Conference on the theme ‘Inclusive Elections and Elections Integrity’ in virtual format on 09 March 2023.

ECI is leading the Cohort on Elections Integrity which was established as a follow up to the ‘Summit for Democracy’ held virtually in December, 2021.

The first international conference of the Cohort was organized on 31 Oct – 01 Nov, 2022 at New Delhi on the topic ‘Role, Framework and Capacity of Election Management Bodies’ where nearly 50 representatives from the Election Management Bodies (EMBs) of 11 countries participated.

The 2nd Conference on the theme ‘Use of Technology and Elections Integrity’ was hosted by ECI at New Delhi on 23-24 January 2023 wherein over 40 participants from 16 countries including Heads/Dy Heads of nine EMBs or Election Authorities and delegates from International IDEA and IFES participated besides diplomats from 8 foreign missions located at New Delhi.

A total of 59 Participants from 31 Countries/EMBs including Angola, Armenia, Australia, Canada, Chile Costa Rica, Croatia, Denmark, Dominica, Georgia, Guyana, Kenya, Republic of Korea, Mauritius, Moldova, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, St. Lucia, Suriname, Sweden, Switzerland and Zambia as well as representatives of two International organisations from International IDEA and International foundation for Electoral systems and representatives from two Civil Society Organisations viz. General Election Network for Disability Access in Indonesia and Association of Youth Organisations in Nepal participated in the Conference.

Background  

‘Summit for Democracy’, was an initiative of US President and hosted in December 2021. The Prime Minister of India spoke at the Leaders Plenary Session on December 9, 2021. 

Following this Summit, a "Year of Action" was proposed with events and dialogues on themes related to Democracy. The Summit also developed two platforms - ‘Focal Groups’ and ‘Democracy Cohorts’ to facilitate participation in the Year of Action. 

The 2nd Summit for Democracy is scheduled to be held on 29- 30 March 2023 and co-hosted by governments of Costa Rica, Rep. of Korea, Netherlands, Zambia and the US.


RBI imposes ₹9.60 lakh penalty on Nuvama Wealth Finance Ltd

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹9.60 lakh (Rupees Nine lakh sixty thousand only) on Nuvama Wealth Finance Limited (formerly known as Edelweiss Finance and Investments Limited) for non-compliance with certain provisions of the Reserve Bank of India (Know Your Customer (KYC) Directions, 2016.


Govt announces 10% reservation for Ex-Agniveers in BSF recruitment

The Central government has announced that 10 percent reservation will be given to Ex-Agniveers in the BSF recruitment. In a notification issued by the Home Ministry, the government has amended the recruitment rules of the Border Security Force.

Sports Minister kicks off ‘Khelo India Dus ka Dum’ tournament 

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Singh Thakur launched the Khelo India Dus ka Dum event at a mega opening ceremony at the JLN Stadium, New Delhi.

The tournament, organized as a part of the International Women’s Day 2023 celebrations, kicked off simultaneously in over 50 cities of the country. Hai dum to Badhao kadam is the tagline of the Khelo India Dus ka Dum event.

This is the first time that such a sports initiative is taking place to celebrate the international event and the Union Ministry has sanctioned a total budget of Rs 50 Lakh to conduct the tournament.

The tournament features 10 sports that will be held across 10 cities in the country. Close to 15000 women athletes are set to participate. 

Khelo India Dus Ka Dum Tournament: Aims

The main purpose of organising this tournament is to provide platform to the women athletes who were unable to participate in national/state level competitions and also ensure that competitive sports reaches untapped geographical areas.


Khelo India Dus Ka Dum Tournament: Key Highlights 

Top women athletes of the country including Indian hockey star Rani, boxer Nikhat Zareen and more have posted videos cheering for the participating girls and wishing them the best. Some of the prominent athletes will also be joining the program in selected locations while women achievers will also be felicitated. 

The sports disciplines that will be a part of the event include: Kho Kho, Wushu, Wrestling, Fencing, Archery, Swimming, Basketball, Judo, Athletics and Yogasana.


Hockey India appoints Craig Fulton as new Chief Coach of Indian men's hockey team 

Hockey India has appointed South African Craig Fulton as new chief coach of the Indian men's hockey team. Craig Fulton will succeed Graham Reid who resigned after India’s poor outing at the World Cup in January 2023.
