First Global Tourism Investors’ Summit (GTIS) to be held in New Delhi from 17-19 May 2023 

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India shall be organizing the country's first Global Tourism Investors’ Summit (GTIS) in New Delhi from 17 to 19 May 2023.

Global Tourism Investors’ Summit (GTIS): Objective

The objective of GTIS 2023, being organized in partnership with Invest India as the Investment Promotion and Facilitation partner and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as the Industry Partner, is to provide a common platform for interactions between global and domestic players and explore the investment opportunities in the Indian travel and hospitality sector.


1st G20 Trade and Investment Working Group (TIWG) Meeting to be held in Mumbai    

The 1st Trade and Investment Working Group (TIWG) meeting under India’s G20 Presidency will be held in Mumbai, from March 28th - 30th, 2023.

During this three-day Meeting, over 100 delegates from G20 member countries, invitee countries, regional groupings and international organisations will engage in deliberations to accelerate global trade and investments.


Congress leader Rahul Gandhi disqualified from Lok Sabha membership 

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha. According to the notification issued by Lok Sabha Secretariat today, Gandhi stands disqualified from Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction i.e. 23rd of March 2023.

He is MP from Wayanad Parliamentary constituency in Kerala.


MoD signs contract with BEL for two Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems Project Himshakti 

The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Hyderabad for procurement of two Integrated Electronic Warfare Systems ‘Project Himshakti’ at an overall cost of approximately Rs 3,000 crore.

The project is under the Buy {Indian – IDMM (Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured)} category comprising contemporary and niche technologies.


Ministry of Ayush sign MoU with Department of ex-servicemen welfare 

Ministry of Ayush and Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare/ECHS, Ministry of Defence (ECHS/DoESW) today signed Memorandum of Understanding to integrate Ayurveda in ECHS Polyclinics as an OPD service for five years period.

Key Highlights  

These will be established at 10 polyclinics based at Ambala, Mysore, Ranchi, Nagpur, Bhopal, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Meerut, Danapur, and Allepey (Alappuzha). Ayurveda centres are already in place in 37 cantonment Hospitals, 12 military hospitals of AFMC and Ayurveda OPD in AH R&R, AF Hospital Hindan and five ECHS polyclinics.

According to this MoU Ayurveda OPD will be established in 10 ECHS Polyclinic/Dispensaries in various regions of India to cover all ECHS members on voluntary basis. Ministry will provide technical guidance from time to time and will empanel Ayurveda Doctors and Pharmacists for their engagement and provide list of essential Ayurveda medicines and any other technical support as may be required.


NHIDCL and CSIR-SERC sign MoU for knowledge on innovative ideas 

National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), a CPSE under the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India and CSIR-SERC (Structural Engineering Research Centre), Chennai signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for sharing knowledge on innovative ideas and technologies in the field of highway engineering.

Background 

This MoU is to establish the basis of collaboration between both the parties such that the NHIDCL and CSIR-SERC can take up various activities of common interest such as sharing knowledge on innovative ideas and technologies in the field of highway engineering and other infrastructure works on mutually agreed terms and conditions. 

This collaboration will strengthen R&D activities in Road Sector and expected to provide lead in conducting, coordinating research, development and training in the area of Development of Highway Infrastructure.

Finance Bill 2023-24 passed in Lok Sabha

QCI & UP Govt. launch Uttar Pradesh Gunvatta Sankalp in Lucknow 

The Government of Uttar Pradesh and Quality Council of India, in collaboration with industry associations - ASSOCHAM, FICCI, IIA and PHDCCI - launched the Uttar Pradesh Gunvatta Sankalp (Uttar Pradesh Quality Mission) at Lucknow.

The Sankalp reinforced the need for Uttar Pradesh to transcend from “Aatmanirbhar Pradesh” to “Daata Pradesh” where Uttar Pradesh provides services back to nation. 

It aimed to contribute to the state's vision of becoming a knowledge superpower and take leadership in adopting transformative digitalisation, imbibing culture of transparency and accessibility, optimizing land and water usage, charting a comprehensive infrastructure and waste management strategy, and a quality movement that is led by the industry.

About Quality Council of India (QCI)

The Quality Council of India, established in 1997 by the Government of India and the Indian industry, is the apex organisation in India responsible for establishing and operating the third party national accreditation system, improving quality across sectors and advising the government and other stakeholders on all matters concerning quality. 

It has established constituent Boards that offer accreditation in respective areas - such as NABL for labs and NABH for hospitals, NABCB for certification and inspection bodies, NABET for education and training. Its National Board for Quality Promotion is responsible for running the national quality campaign. The Chairperson of QCI, nominated by the Prime Minister of India, is Jaxay Shah, CMD of Savvy Group of Companies.


Centre approves 7 PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks 

The Union Minister of State for Textiles, Smt. Darshana Jardosh in a written reply in Rajya Sabha informed that the Government has approved setting up of 7 (Seven) PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks in Greenfield/Brownfield sites with world class infrastructure including plug and play facility with an outlay of Rs. 4,445 cr for a period of seven years upto 2027-28.

The Government has finalised 7 sites viz. Tamil Nadu (Virudhnagar), Telangana (Warangal), Gujarat (Navsari), Karnataka (Kalburgi), Madhya Pradesh (Dhar), Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow/Hardoi) and Maharastra (Amrawati) for setting up PM MITRA Parks.


Noted writer, director Pradeep Sarkar passes away at 67 

Noted writer, director and ad filmmaker, Pradeep Sarkar passed away in Mumbai. He was 67 years old and had been suffering from kidney disease. Pradeep famous Bollywood movies included ‘Parineeta', Laga Chunari Mein Daag', Mardaani and Helicopter Eela.


PM Modi lays foundation stone various development projects in Varanasi 

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated development projects worth more than Rs. 1780 crores in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. 

The projects include laying the foundation stone of the Passenger Ropeway from Varanasi Cantt station to Godowlia, a 55 MLD sewage treatment plant at Bhagwanpur under Namami Ganga Scheme, Phases 2 and 3 of the redevelopment work of Sigra Stadium, an LPG bottling plant at Isarwar village, Sewapuri to be built by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, a primary health center in Bharthara village and floating jetty with changing rooms among others. 

PM Modi also dedicated 19 drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, which will benefit more than 3 lakh people of 63 Gram Panchayats. He also laid the foundation stone of 59 drinking water schemes under the Mission. He also dedicated an integrated pack house in Karkhiyaon for grading, sorting and processing of fruits and vegetables. He also dedicated various projects under the Varanasi Smart City Mission.


ISSF World Cup 2023: Rudrankksh Patil wins bronze medal in Men’s 10M Air Rifle event

India's Rudrankksh Patil won the bronze medal in the Men’s 10M Air Rifle event on the third day of the ISSF World Cup Shooting Championship in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Rudrankksh Patil also qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024.
