Cabinet approves 4% hike of Dearness Allowance to Central Government employees  

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its approval to release an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance to Central Governments employees and Dearness Relief to Pensioners with effect from 01.01.2023. The additional instalment will represent an increase of 4% over the existing rate of 38% of the Basic Pay/Pension, to compensate against price rise.

Key Highlights 

The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would be Rs.12,815.60 crore per annum.

This will benefit about 47.58 lakh Central Governments employees and 69.76 lakh pensioners. This increase is in accordance with the accepted formula which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.


Union Cabinet extends subsidy of 200 rupees per cylinder for 12 refills annually for Ujjwala Yojana 

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a subsidy of Rs.200 per 14.2 kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year to be provided to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana(PMUY). As on 1st March 2023 there are 9.59 crore PMUY beneficiaries.

Key Highlights  

The total expenditure will be Rs.6,100 crore for financial year 2022-23 and Rs.7,680 crore for 2023-24. The subsidy is credited directly to bank accounts of the eligible beneficiaries.  Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies namely Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL) has already been providing this subsidy since 22nd May, 2022.


Cabinet approves MSP for Raw Jute at 5,050 rupees per quintal for 2023-24 

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given its approval for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for Raw Jute for 2023-24 season. The approval is based on recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).

The MSP of Raw Jute (TD-3 equivalent to earlier TD-5 grade) has been fixed at Rs.5050/- per quintal for 2023-24 season. This would ensure a return of 63.20 percent over the all India weighted average cost of production. The announced MSP of raw jute for 2023-24 season is in line with the principle of fixing the MSP at a level of at least 1.5 times all India weighted average cost of production as announced by the Government in the Budget 2018-19.


2nd Environment & Climate Sustainability Working Group meeting to be held in Gujarat from 27th March 

The second Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group meeting under India's G20 presidency will be held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat from 27th March 2023.

The three-day meeting is being hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in collaboration with the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Intel co-founder and creator of Moore's Law, Gordon Moore passed away in Hawaii. He was 94. Gordon Moore was the driving force behind the development of modern computing devices.

Moore began working on semiconductors in the 1950s and co-founded the Intel Corporation in 1968 which grew into the world’s largest semiconductor maker at one point.

PM Modi inaugurates Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Krishnarajapura Metro Line in Bangalore 

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of Bangalore Metro today. He also took a ride in the newly inaugurated metro.

Background

In line with this, the 13.71 km stretch from Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of Reach-1 extension project under Bangalore Metro Phase 2 was inaugurated by the Prime Minister at Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station. Built at a cost of around Rs 4250 crores, the inauguration of this metro line will provide a clean, safe, rapid and comfortable travel facility to commuters in Bengaluru, enhancing the ease of mobility and reducing traffic congestion in the city.

ISSF World Cup 2023: Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil wins bronze medal in 10m Air Rifle event 

Rudranksh Patil won a bronze medal in the 10m Air Rifle event by scoring 262.2 points in the 8th ISSF World Cup Shooting Championship at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. India finished second with a total of five medals, one gold, one silver and three bronze.
