Deakin University becomes first foreign university to set up its Branch in GIFT City India  

The Deakin University, which is a premier University in Australia, has become the 1st foreign university to receive approval of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to set up an International Branch Campus (IBC) in GIFT-IFSC, GIFT City, Gujarat.

Deakin University to set up its Branch in GIFT City: Background 

Union Finance & Corporate Affairs Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman in the Union Budget 2022-23 announced that “World Class Foreign Universities and Institutions will be allowed in the GIFT City to offer courses in Financial Management, FinTech, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, free from domestic regulations, except those by the IFSCA to facilitate availability of high-end human resources for financial services and technology”.

The IFSCA, which is the unified financial regulator for IFSCs in India, notified IFSCA (Setting up and Operation of International Branch Campus and Offshore Education Centres) Regulations, 2022 in October, 2022, which has received encouraging response from reputed foreign universities from across the world.

The President of India Smt Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 7th International Dharma Dhamma Conference, organised by the India Foundation in collaboration with the Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.


8th edition of National Conference on Economics of Competition Law held in New Delhi 

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) organised the 8th National Conference on Economics of Competition Law in New Delhi. The Conference, which brings together scholars, practitioners, academicians and experts working in the area of economics of competition law, has been organised by the CCI every year since 2016.

The objectives of the conference are 

  • To stimulate research and debate on contemporary issues in the field of economics of competition law,
  • To develop a better understanding of competition issues relevant to the Indian context and
  • To draw inferences for enforcement of competition law in India.


Former CJI AM Ahmadi passes away at 90 

Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Aziz Mushabber Ahmadi passed away. He was 90. Ahmadi was the chief justice from 1994 to 1997.

About Former CJI AM Ahmadi  

Born on March 25, 1932, in Surat, Justice AM Ahmadi was the 26th Chief Justice of India. In 1964, Ahmadi was appointed a civil and sessions judge in Ahmedabad and went on to become the state’s law secretary.


Former Union Minister Satyabrata Mookherjee passes away at 90 

Former Union Minister and BJP leader Satyavrat Mukherjee has passed away in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was 90.

Satyavrat Mukherjee was the Union Minister of State during the tenure of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Along with this, Mukherjee was also the former Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India.


Indigenous fuse for ASW rocket handed over to Indian Navy 

Indian Navy received a fully indigenised fuze YDB-60 for underwater Rocket RGB 60 manufactured for the first time by a private Indian industry.

Indian Navy received for the first time a fully indigenised fuze YDB-60 for underwater Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) Rocket RGB-60 used from major warships, through a private manufacturer M/s Economic Explosives Limited (EEL), Nagpur. This would be the first time the Indian Navy has placed supply order for underwater ammunition fuze on an Indian Private industry.

1st edition of Women's Premier League (WPL 2023) begins in Navi Mumbai

History will be made tomorrow when the five-team Women's Premier League (WPL 2023) begins in Navi Mumbai.

Women's Premier League (WPL 2023): Key Highlights 

The five teams taking part in the inaugural edition of WPL are Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), UP Warriorz (UPW) and Gujarat Giants (GG). India captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been named as MI captain while opener Smriti Mandhana will lead RCB's women's team.

Australia's successful skipper Meg Lanning will be at the helm of Delhi Capitals, while Beth Mooney has been named as captain for Gujarat Giants. Australian wicketkeeper and batter Alyssa Healy is leading UP Warriorz in WPL 2023.

The first match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants will be played at DY Patil Stadium Navi Mumbai, at 7.30 pm on 4th of March. The tournament final will be played at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, on 26th of March 2023.
