Govt conducts first-ever census of water bodies in India
The Ministry of Jal Shakti has conducted the first-ever census of water bodies across the nation. The census provides a comprehensive inventory of India's water resources, including natural and man-made water bodies like ponds and lakes.
Key Highlights
In the census, over 24 lakh 24 thousand water bodies have been enumerated in the country out of which more than 23 lakh water bodies are in rural areas and nearly 69 thousand are in urban areas.
The top five States in terms of number of water bodies are West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Assam which constitute around 63 per cent of the total water bodies in the country.
Railways to launch Puri - Gangasagar Divya Kashi Yatra
Railways will launch the Puri - Gangasagar Divya Kashi Yatra by Bharat Gaurav Tourist train from Pune on 28th April 2023 under Dekho Apna Desh and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Scheme.

The 10 days tour will cover the important religious destinations of Puri, Kolkata, Gaya, Varanasi and Prayagraj.
The visitors will have the opportunity to visit various important religious destinations like Jangannath Temple, Konark Temple, Lingraj Temple, Kali Bari, Vishnu Pad Temple and Kashi Vishwanath Temple.
President Droupadi Murmu to visit Haryana today
The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu will visit Haryana (Karnal and Hisar) today (April 24, 2023).
At Karnal, President Smt Droupadi Murmu w will grace the 19th convocation of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – National Dairy Research Institute. While at Hisar, she will grace the 25th convocation of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University.
Minister Sonowal inaugurates infra projects in Chennai & Kamarajar Ports
Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated major infrastructure projects in Chennai, Tamil Nadu to augment the capacity of Chennai and Kamarajar ports in the state.
The projects - worth more than ₹148 crore - aim at boosting the capacity of Chennai and Kamarajar ports.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also underlined the ongoing discussion between India and Russia to open up ‘Chennai-Vladivostok Maritime Corridor’ in order to bolster the maritime trade between the two countries.
