RBI cancels certificate of registration of 7 NBFCs, 14 surrender permits 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the registration certificates of seven Non-Banking Finance Companies (NBFCs).

The NBFCs whose certificate of registration was cancelled were

  1. Coorg Tea Company
  2. Trimurthi Finvest
  3. East West Finvest India
  4. J.V. Modi Securities
  5. K K Patel Finance
  6. Purvi Finvest
  7. Genfin Capital Pvt Ltd

As per the RBI these NBFC companies shall not transact the business of a Non-Banking Financial Institution..........Read More 


NIIF appoints Rajiv Dhar as CEO & MD on interim basis 

Rajiv Dhar appointed as new CEO & MD of NIIF: National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited (NIIFL) has appointed Rajiv Dhar, Executive Director & Chief Operating Officer as the Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director of NIIFL on an interim basis, effective May 11, 2023.

Rajiv joined NIIF in September 2017 and is currently the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer based in Mumbai.

The government had set up the Rs 40,000 crore NIIF in December 2016 as an investment vehicle for funding commercially viable greenfield, brownfield and stalled projects.

Congress wins Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023 

Congress has won a one-sided clear majority in Karnataka assembly elections. According to the Election Commission of India, Congress has won 135 seats out of a total 224 Assembly seats and is leading in 1 constituency. The ruling BJP bagged 65 seats. JD(S) has come third winning 19 seats while others have won 4 seats.


Aam Aadmi Party wins Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-poll 

Aam Aadmi Party has won the Jalandhar, Punjab Lok Sabha by poll. AAP candidate Sushil Kumar Rinku defeated Congress candidate Karamjit Kaur by a margin of 58,647 votes.

The Lok Sabha seat fell vacant following the death of Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary.


G7 Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors meet in Japan 

G7 finance ministers and central bank governors meet in Niigata, Japan, attended by the heads of the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank Group, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the Financial Stability Board.

The meeting took place from 11 to 13 May.

During the G7 Finance Ministers, Central Bank Governors meeting, several issues of global interest including the Russia-Ukraine war and debt vulnerabilities in developing countries were discussed.


Second G20 Culture Group (CWG) meeting begins in Bhubaneswar 

The 2nd Culture Working Group Meeting is being organised in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from 14th -17th May. The meeting will be attended by delegates from G20 members, guest nations, and several international organisations. The meeting offers an opportunity to discuss pressing issues facing the culture sector to further deliberate in-depth work towards tangible, action-oriented recommendations.

Key Highlights 

The 2nd CWG meeting will build on the momentum gained from the 1st Culture Working Group meeting held in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, which was followed by in depth expert-driven Global Thematic Webinars held over the past two months.

The meetings of the Culture Working Group focuses on 4 key priority areas articulated under Culture Track of India’s G20 Presidency. The 4 priority areas are: Protection and Restitution of Cultural Property; Harnessing Living Heritage for a Sustainable Future; Promotion of Cultural and Creative Industries and Creative Economy; and Leveraging Digital Technologies for the Protection and Promotion of Culture.


Home Ministry to organize major security conference in July 

India is busy with activities related to the chairmanship of the G20. After hosting a series of G20 grouping meetings on a wide range of issues, India is now set to host another major security summit in July.

Focusing on transnational crime and security in the era of NFTs, AI and Metaverse, the Ministry of Home Affairs is now set to chair a two-day G20 summit on July 13 and 14, 2023 in Gurugram, Haryana. Notably, this will be the second global conference hosted by New Delhi, after the "No Money for Terror" conference.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar released the book 'Reflections on India's Public Policies' co-authored by 1984 batch officers of the Indian Administrative Service, at the Upa-Rashtrapati Nivas in New Delhi.


PM Modi launches various development projects in Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and dedicated several projects to the nation worth around Rs 4400 crores in Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

The projects that were inaugurated included development initiatives worth Rs. 2450 in Urban Development Department, Water Supply Department, Road and Transport Department and Mines and Minerals Department. Besides, PMAY projects (both rural and urban) worth Rs. 1950 crores, were also inaugurated.

PM Modi also handed over keys to beneficiaries of the scheme for about 19,000 houses built under the Gruh Pravesh scheme, and interacted with them via video link.
