The central government has decided to create five new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The new districts, namely Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra and Changthang.

MHA announces five new districts in Ladakh
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced the creation of five new districts in Ladakh - Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra and Changthang - with an aim to enhance governance and bring services closer to the people.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the Home Ministry is planning to set up five new districts in the Union Territory of Ladakh. The names of the 5 new districts to be created in Ladakh are - Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang.

Till now Ladakh was divided into two districts - Leh and Kargil. Leh was divided into six sub-divisions, while Kargil was divided into four sub-divisions.

After the establishment of five new districts, there will be a total of seven districts in Ladakh, whose names are as follows.
- Leh
- Kargil
- Zanskar
- Drass
- Sham
- Nubra
- Changthang
