IAS officer Bhuvnesh Kumar has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). He is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1995 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. Bhuvnesh held several important positions both at the Centre and in his cadre state.

IAS Bhuvnesh Kumar assumes charge as CEO, UIDAI
IAS officer Bhuvnesh Kumar assumed charge as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on 1st January 2025. He is an officer of the 1995 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. Bhuvnesh has replaced IAS officer Amit Agarwal.

Bhuvnesh Kumar took over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) at UIDAI Headquarters New Delhi on 1st January 2025.
Along with CEO UIDAI, IAS Bhuvnesh Kumar continues to be an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. Earlier, he has also served as the Joint Secretary in MeitY.
About IAS Bhuvnesh Kumar CEO UIDAI
Bhuvnesh Kumar a graduate and gold medalist from National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra. He held several important positions both at the Centre and in his cadre state.
In Uttar Pradesh, IAS Bhuvnesh served as the Principal Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries. Previously he was the Secretary Finance, Secretary MSME, Secretary Technical Education and Divisional Commissioner Department of Land Revenue in the Government of Uttar Pradesh.

Kumar was also the Secretary in charge of Sports and Youth Welfare, Planning, and Vocational Education among many other important positions in his career.
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)
The Unique Identification Authority of India is an authority of the Government of India, formed in 2009 under the ambitious plan of the Government of India to provide a multi-purpose national identity card to every citizen of India.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016 (Aadhaar Act 2016) on 12 July 2016 by the Government of India, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
UIDAI was created to issue Unique Identification numbers (UID), named as "Aadhaar", to all residents of India. The UID had to be (a) robust enough to eliminate duplicate and fake identities, and (b) verifiable and authenticable in an easy, cost-effective way.
