Mayank Sharma takes charge as Controller General of Defence Accounts
Mayank Sharma took over as the new Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA). Sharma is a 1989-batch officer of the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) and has had a distinguished career in the government spanning more than three decades.

Mayank Sharma took over the appointment of new Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) at New Delhi with effect from 1st March 2025.
About Mayank Sharma, CGDA
Dr Mayank Sharma has served in various capacities within the Government of India, including the Defence Accounts Department.
Mayank Sharma has also held key positions in the Cabinet Secretariat and represented India as the Alternate Permanent Representative at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, and the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law.
Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS)
The Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS) officer has represented India at the International Anti-Corruption Academy and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna. As the Head of the Consular Division at the Indian Embassy in Vienna, he was responsible for all consular affairs and handled high-level Indian delegations at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Defence Accounts Department
The Defence Accounts Department (DAD) functions under the administrative control of Ministry of Defence and is headed by Controller General of Defence Accounts.
The Controller General of Defence Accounts (CGDA) heads the Defence Accounts Department. Dr. Mayank Sharma, IDAS is the present CGDA.
The Defence Accounts Department, headed by the Controller General of Defence Accounts, is presently responsible for rendering financial advice to the Defence Accounts Services and other defence organisations like Indian Coast Guard, Border Roads and Canteen Stores Department and for payment, accounting and internal audit of their expenditure and receipts.

The Controller General of Defence Accounts runs the Department with the assistance of 04 Additional Controller General of Defence Accounts, 19 Principal Controllers and 70 Controller of Defence Accounts level officers handling the work of Regional Controllers (Army), Functional Controllers/Integrated Financial Advisers dealing with the work related to Army, Navy, Air Force, Ordnance Factories, Defence Research & Development Organisations, Coast Guard and Border Roads Organisation etc.

Defence Accounts Department (DAD) aims at providing responsive and professional Financial, Audit and Accounting services. This encompasses timely, efficient and correct payment of Pay and allowances, Pension & gratuities to Armed Forces & Defence Civilian and other payments relating to supplies and services. It ensures proper accounting of all such expenditure from the Defence Budget. As the Principal Accounting and Finance entity for the Defence Services, DAD is committed to providing best value for money by being a trusted Financial Services Partner.
