Justice Ranjan Gogoi sworn in as 46th Chief Justice of India

Justice Ranjan Gogoi was sworn-in as the 46th Chief Justice of India (CJI). Justice Ranjan Gogoi replaces from outgoing CJI Dipak Misra, whose 13-month tenure came to a close on October 2. 

Justice Ranjan Gogoi was administered the oath by President Ram Nath Kovind in Rashtrapati Bhawan’s Darbar Hall for the ceremony.

Justice Ranjan Gogoi is the first Chief Justice of India from the north-east. His term will end on November 2019.
 
In 2001, CJI Gogoi started his career as a Permanent Judge of the Gauhati High Court.
 
In 2010, he was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court and was appointed Chief Justice there in 2011.
 
In 2012, Ranjan Gogoi became a Supreme Court judge.
