India takes over operations of part of Chabahar Port in Iran

India took over the operations of a part of Shahid Beheshti Port, Chabahar in Iran. This is the first time India will be operating a port outside its territory.

The Government of India took over the operations of a part of Shahid Beheshti Port, Chabahar in Iran during the Chabahar Trilateral Agreement meeting held there on the 24th of December 2018.

The heads of Indian, Iranian and Afghanistan delegation jointly inaugurated the office of the Indian SPV - India Ports Global Chabahar Free Zone (IPGCFZ), at Chabahar.

The physical take-over of the terminal area, cargo handling equipment and Office building was completed by 29th December 2018.

Commercial operations began at IPGCFZwith the arrival of a vessel. A Cyprus registered bulk carrier had arrived at Chabahar with 72458 MT of corn cargo.

The vessel MV MACHERAS berthed at the terminal at 0130 hrs on 30th December 2018. Thus IPGCFZ carried out its first cargo operation by discharging the imported cargo(ex Brazil) using pneumatic unloaders.

India has written a history with its engagement in Chabahar and is now leading the regional cooperation and joint efforts to support land locked Afghanistan.....Read More


Central Government approves Two new Skill Development Scheme

Two new Skill Development Schemes have been approved by the central government namely (i) Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood (SANKALP); and (ii) Skills Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE).


The details of the two schemes are as under:- 

(i) Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood (SANKALP)

The Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood (SANKALP) is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme with a project of total size US Dollar 675 million, including World Bank assistance of US Dollar 500 million, in two tranches of US Dollar 250 million each, with a six-year implementation schedule. At present, the first tranche has been approved for implementation.


SANKALP is a project to reform the skill development landscape, strengthen institutions at Central and State levels, enable greater decentralization of skill development governance, and improve industry connect of skill development programs. The main objectives of the project are:

  • Creating convergence among all skill training activities, both State-led and Government of India funded, at the state level.
  • Improving quality of skill development programs through enablers such as building a pool of quality trainers and assessors, developing model curriculum and content, and standardizing assessment and certification.
  • Establishing robust monitoring and evaluation system for skill training programs.
  • Providing access to skill training opportunities to the disadvantaged sections.
  • Creating industry led and demand driven skill training capacity.


(ii) Skills Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE)

Skills Strengthening for Industrial Value Enhancement (STRIVE) project is a World Bank assisted-Government of India project with the objective of improving the relevance and efficiency of skills training provided through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and apprenticeships.........Read More



AAI signs MoU with SAMEER for boosting communication

Airport Authority of India (AAI) signed MoU with Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research (SAMEER) for joint research programs in the field of Communication Navigation and Surveillance (CNS).


AAI and SAMEER will strive to arrive at a beneficial solution for CNS Systems related R and D activities in the country.

AAI and SAMEER, an autonomous research and development (R and D) institute under Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology (MeitY).

The MOU is under Government of India's impetus for embracing the Make in India concept through indigenous design and development of CNS systems.



Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announces interest-free loans for women self-help groups


Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced interest-free loans of up to Rs.3 lakh for six lakh women self-help groups (WSHGs) benefiting about 70 lakh women in Odisha.

CM Patnaik announced Rs 15000 seed money for new SHGs, Rs 3,000 to purchase smartphones for digital empowerment and a sum of Rs 25 lakh for 338 existing block federations.

Also announced incentives of Rs. 500 per month for anganwadi workers and Rs.200 for helpers.
