1. Denmark's Oscar nominee Another Round to be opening movie at 51st IFFI: Quick Highlights 
  • 51st International Film Festival of India will open on 16th January, 2021, with the Indian premiere of the movie ‘Another Round’ by Thomas Vinterberg. The movie starring Cannes Best Actor Award winner Mads Mikkelsen is among a star-studded line up of movies being showcased at IFFI. The movie is also Denmark’s official entry to the Oscars.
  • The festival will also witness the World Premier of ‘Mehrunisa’. The film by Sandeep Kumar will premier mid-fest. Starring formidable actor Farrukh Jaffar, the movie narrates the story of a woman’s lifelong dream.


2. Home Minister Amit Shah released inaugural issue of “National Police K-9 Journal”
  • The Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah released the inaugural issue of the “National Police K-9 Journal” in New Delhi. 
  • It is the first such publication in the country on the subject of Police Service K9s (PSKs) i.e. Police Dogs. The event was attended by the Union Home Secretary Shri Ajay Bhalla, Directors General of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and senior ranking Police Officers of the Forces, while CAPF personnel from all over the country attended through virtual conference.


3. Former Union Minister Buta Singh passes away at 86 in New Delhi
  • Veteran Congress leader and, Former Union Minister Buta Singh passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. He was 86.
  • The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the demise of Shri Buta Singh.


4. India, ADB sign USD 10 million loan agreement to support project preparation to expand horticulture in Himachal Pradesh
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $10 million project readiness financing (PRF) to help finance piloting activities, and design and capacity building for an ensuing project that aims to expand horticulture production and farm household income in the hill state of Himachal Pradesh.


5. PM Modi to deliver inaugural address at National Metrology Conclave on 4 January
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will deliver the inaugural address at the National Metrology Conclave on 4th January 2021 via video conferencing. 
  • PM Modi will also dedicate ‘National Atomic Timescale’, and ‘Bhartiya Nirdeshak Dravya’ to the nation, and lay the foundation stone of the ‘National Environmental Standards Laboratory’. Union Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan will also be present on the occasion.


6. Major nation-wide Mock Drill on COVID19 Vaccine administration held in all States, UTs
  • India continues to scale several peaks in its fight against the COVID19 pandemic. As the country readies for the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out, the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) has been pro-actively involved in the preparations for this roll-out over the past couple of months to ensure that the preparations for roll-out of COVID-19 vaccine are on track, in close collaboration with the States/UTs and other stakeholders.


7. Government decided to resume flights to Britain from 8 January
  • The government has decided to resume flights between India and Britain from January 8. Flights were stopped between the two countries to prevent the spread of the new form of COVID-19 in Britain.


8. T Natarajan to replace Umesh Yadav in India’s Test squad
  • The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named T Natarajan as Umesh Yadav’s replacement. Umesh Yadav sustained a strain in his left calf muscle on Day 3 of the second Border-Gavaskar Test in Melbourne.
