PM Modi inaugurates National Conference of Environment Ministers of all States in Gujarat 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Conference of Environment Ministers in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat via video conferencing.

Background 

The two day Conference being organised on the 23rd and 24th of September will have six thematic sessions with topics focusing on LiFE, Combating Climate Change (Updating State Action Plans on Climate Change for Mitigation of Emissions and Adaptation to Climate Impacts); PARIVESH (Single Window System for Integrated Green Clearances); Forestry Management; Prevention and Control of Pollution; Wildlife Management; Plastics and Waste Management.


India achieves significant landmarks in reduction of Child Mortality 

In a significant milestone, India has achieved landmark achievement in further reduction of child mortality rates.

As per the Sample Registration System (SRS) Statistical Report 2020 released on 22nd September 2022 by Registrar General of India (RGI), the country has been witnessing a progressive reduction in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR), Under 5 Mortality Rate (U5MR) and Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) since 2014 towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) targets by 2030.

Following a steady downward trend, IMR, U5MR and NMR have further declined

Under 5 Mortality Rate (U5MR) for the country has shown a significant decline of 3 points (Annual Decline Rate: 8.6%) from 2019 (32 per 1000 live births in 2020 against 35 per 1000 live births in 2019). It varies from 36 in rural areas to 21 in urban areas.

Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) has also registered a 2-point decline to 28 per 1000 live births in 2020 from 30 per 1000 live births in 2019 (Annual Decline Rate: 6.7%).

Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) has also declined by 2 points from 22 per 1000 live births in 2019 to 20 per 1000 live births in 2020 (Annual Decline Rate: 9.1%). It ranges from 12 in urban areas to 23 in rural areas.


Dr M Srinivas appointed as new director of AIIMS New Delhi 

Dr M Srinivas has been appointed as the director of All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences, AIIMS, New Delhi. Dr Srinivas who is Dean of ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Hyderabad, will succeed Randeep Guleria.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dr. Srinivas to the post of AIIMS director.


Coal India to ink MoU with three major PSUs for Coal to Chemical Products 

The Coal India Limited (CIL), under the aegis of Ministry of Coal, will be inking three major Memorandum of Undertaking (MoU) on 27th September 2022 in New Delhi.

Coal India will be joining hands with three other major PSUs of the country Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and GAIL (India) for setting up four SCG projects.

Indian army and DGRE successfully installed first avalanche monitoring radar in North Sikkim 

Indian army and Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE) successfully installed the first avalanche monitoring radar in North Sikkim.

This radar, a first of its kind in India has the capability to detect avalanches within three seconds of its trigger and will assist in saving the valuable life of troops and reducing damage to property in Super High Altitude Areas.

The avalanche radar was made operational by DGRE of DRDO,7 an organization that is involved in forecasting and mitigation of avalanche hazards faced by the Indian Army in the Himalayan Region.


India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage exceeds 217.26 Cr; Recovery Rate currently stands at 98.71%

India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 217.26 Cr (2,17,26,27,951) as per provisional reports till 7 am today.

COVID-19 vaccination for the age group 12-14 years was started on 16 March, 2022. So far, more than 4.08 Cr (4,08,99,936) adolescents have been administered with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Similarly, the COVID-19 precaution dose administration for age group 18-59 years also started from 10th April, 2022 onwards.

India’s Active Caseload currently stands at 45,281. Active cases now constitute 0.10% of the country's total Positive Cases. 5,383 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours.

Consequently, India’s recovery rate stands at 98.71%. 6,424 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours and the cumulative tally of recovered patients (since the beginning of the pandemic) is now at 4,39,84,695.

The Weekly Positivity Rate in the country currently stands at 1.70% and the Daily Positivity rate is reported to be 1.68%.
