36th International Surajkund Crafts Mela 2023 will be held in Faridabad, Haryana from 03 to 19 February 2023.

36th International Surajkund Crafts Mela 2023: Theme 

This year Eight North Eastern States are the Theme State and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) of the Surajkund Crafts Mela. Visitors to the fair will get a chance to experience the heritage and culture of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

Key Highlights 

North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC) and North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC) are the nodal agencies who are setting up the North Eastern Region Theme State pavilion.

The pavilion would include a permanent structure comprising elements from all States of the North Eastern, fashion show extravaganzas, stalls of artisans, cultural performance apart from several other activities showcasing rich culture of the North Eastern and highlighting progress and development in the region.

RBI imposes ₹30 lakh penalty on Bank of Baroda 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹30.00 lakh (Rupees Thirty lakh only) on Bank of Baroda for non-compliance with certain provisions of the ‘Reserve Bank of India – (Know Your Customer (KYC)) Direction, 2016’ and Reserve Bank of India (Interest Rate on Deposits) Directions, 2016.


RBI imposes ₹42.48 lakh penalty on Krazybee Services Private Ltd. 

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of ₹42.48 lakh (Rupees Forty two lakh forty eight thousand only) on Krazybee Services Private Limited, Bangalore for non-compliance with certain provisions of the directions issued by RBI on “Managing Risks and Code of Conduct in Outsourcing of Financial Services by NBFCs” and “Fair Practices Code for applicable NBFCs”, contained in the “Non-Banking Financial Company - Systemically Important Non-Deposit taking Company and Deposit taking Company (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2016.


RBI imposes ₹39.50 lakh penalty on North East Small Finance Bank  

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has, by an order dated January 30, 2023, imposed a monetary penalty of ₹39.50 lakh (Rupees Thirty-nine Lakh Fifty Thousand only) on North East Small Finance Bank Limited for non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI on ‘Prudential Norms on Income Recognition, Asset Classification and Provisioning Pertaining to Advances - Divergence in NPA Accounts’ and ‘Prudential Guidelines on Capital Adequacy and Market Discipline-New Capital Adequacy Framework (NCAF)’.


India’s G20 Sherpa given a Demo of the Digital India Mobile Van

India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant was given a demo of the Digital India Mobile Van in New Delhi.

Soon after, the mobile van was sent off to Lucknow, where the first meeting of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group is scheduled from February 13-15, 2023. The Digital India Mobile Van will tour various other cities in the country as well, enlightening citizens about G20 DEWG and Digital India’s key initiatives.


First G20 Tourism Working Group meeting to be held in Rann of Kutch from 7-9 Feb 2023 

Under the framework of G20, Ministry of Tourism will organise its first Tourism Working Group meeting from 7th to 9th February 2023 in Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.

Thrust will be on 5 priority areas of tourism during G20 i.e greening of tourism sector, power of digitisation, empowering youth with skills, nurturing tourism MSMEs/ startups and strategic management of destinations.


Youth 20 Summit inception meeting to be held in Guwahati from 6th to 8th Feb

Under the framework of G20 Presidency, Department of Youth Affairs has been entrusted with the responsibility to organize Youth 20 Summit-2023. In the light of this, Department of Youth Affairs is organising the Youth 20 Inception meeting from the 6th to 8th February, 2023 at Guwahati, Assam. On 08th February, 2023, the closing ceremony will be held with the launch of white papers by the Union Cabinet Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports.

India has assumed the Presidency of G20 on 1st December, 2022 for a period of 1 year i.e. up to 30th November, 2023. India’s theme for its presidency is enshrined in its civilizational value system of ‘Vasudevakutumbakam’. Hence our theme - 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'.


Indian Railways to run 35 Hydrogen trains under 'Hydrogen for Heritage'  

Indian Railways (IR) has envisaged to run 35 (thirty five) Hydrogen trains under “Hydrogen for Heritage” at an estimated cost of ₹ 80 crores per train and ground infrastructure of ₹ 70 crores per route on various heritage/hill routes.

Besides, IR has also awarded a pilot project for retro fitment of Hydrogen Fuel cell on existing Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) rake along with ground infrastructure at the cost of ₹ 111.83 crores which is planned to be run on Jind –Sonipat section of Northern Railway.


Lt Gen Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Royal Cambodian Armed Forces arrives on 3-day visit to India 

Lieutenant General Hun Manet, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) and Commander of Royal Cambodian Army along with a delegation is visiting India from 02 to 04 February 2023.

This is the maiden visit by any Commander of Royal Cambodian Army and is a milestone in Army to Army relations between both countries.


Department of Agriculture sign MoU with Development Innovation Lab at the University of Chicago

Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare (DA&FW) under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, has entered into a partnership with The Development Innovation Lab (DIL) at the University of Chicago, in New Delhi to explore the opportunities to harness innovation to improve food security, address climate change, and allow farmers to increase their incomes.

The partnership will look into innovation opportunities related to agriculture and food security in the context of climate change, in the present scenario of experiencing a rise in extreme temperatures, floods, and droughts, as well as changes to the monsoon system. 

Innovations in digital services, weather forecasts, and soil health management could help farmers adapt to these shocks and improve their livelihoods, while improving environmental sustainability of agriculture. DIL will assist DA&FW in its efforts to identify, develop, test, and refine innovations in these and other priority areas, to support India’s small holder farmers.
