India - UK Bilateral Maritime Exercise Konkan 2023 held in Arabian Sea   

Konkan 2023, the annual bilateral maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy (United Kingdom's naval warfare force) was held from 20 to 22 March 23 off the Konkan coast in the Arabian Sea.

Maritime Exercise Konkan-2023: Participate by

INS Trishul, a guided missile frigate, and HMS Lancaster, a Type 23 guided missile frigate, participated in this edition and undertook multiple maritime drills to enhance interoperability and imbibe best practices.

Maritime Exercise Konkan-2023: Key Highlights  

The exercises covered all domains of maritime operations, air, surface and sub-surface, and included gunnery shoots on surface inflatable target ‘Killer Tomato’, helicopter operations, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare drills, Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS), ship manoeuvres and exchange of personnel.

MoD inks contracts with BEL for Medium Power Radars ‘Arudhra’ & 129 DR-118 Radar Warning Receivers 

The Ministry of Defence signed two separate contracts with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), at a total cost of over Rs 3,700 crore, to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Air Force.

The first contract, worth over Rs 2,800 crore, pertains to the supply of Medium Power Radars (MPR) ‘Arudhra’ for the Indian Air Force. 

The second contract, at an overall cost of approx. Rs 950 crore, relates to 129 DR-118 Radar Warning Receivers (RWR). Both projects are under the Buy {Indian – IDMM (Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured)} category.

About Medium Power Radars Arudhra 

The Medium Power Radars (MPR) Arudhra has been indigenously designed and developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and will be manufactured by BEL. Its successful trials have already been conducted by the Indian Air Force. 

It is a 4D multi-function phased array radar with electronic steering in both azimuth and elevation for surveillance, detection and tracking of aerial targets. The system will have target identification based on interrogations from co-located Identification Friend or Foe systems.

About DR-118 Radar Warning Receivers

The DR-118 Radar Warning Receiver will considerably enhance the Electronic Warfare (EW) capabilities of Su-30 MKI aircraft. Majority of sub-assemblies and parts will be sourced from indigenous manufacturers. 

The project will boost and encourage active participation of Indian Electronics and associated industries, including MSMEs. It will generate employment of approx. two lakh man-days over a period of three and half years.


NASA and ISRO jointly manufacturer an earth science satellite named, NISAR 

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh informed the Rajya Sabha that National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) have jointly manufactured an earth science satellite named, NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar).

Key Highlights   

The satellite is configured with I-3K bus and the instrument identified for SAR is based on the innovative Sweep SAR technique configured in both L and S band in polarimetric configuration for wide swath and high resolution.

The spacecraft will orbit the Earth in a sun synchronous orbit of 747 Km with an inclination of 98.4 degree for a 12-day repeat cycle.

While NASA is delivering the L-Band SAR payload, high precision GPS and 12m unfurlable antenna, ISRO is delivering S-band SAR payload, spacecraft bus and facilitating launch. The total expenditure incurred on realization of NISAR satellite by ISRO as on February, 2023 is Rs. 469.40 Crore, excluding launch cost.


Urban Climate Film Festival to be held from 24-26 March 2023 

The National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is organising the first Urban Climate Film Festival through the CITIIS program under U20 engagement events. 

The festival is being organised with support from the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, the French Development Agency (AFD), and the European Union. A curated selection of 11 films from 9 countries will be showcased to create wider awareness of the impact of climate change on life in cities and engage the public in the dialogue on sustainable urban development.


Agriculture Minister launches DigiClaim for claim disbursal through National Crop Insurance Portal 

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Thursday launched DigiClaim, under the ambit of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, for claim disbursal through National Crop Insurance Portal. 

With the launch of a DigiClaim Module, the insurance claims of over one thousand 260 crore rupees have been disbursed today to insured farmers of six states. The states are Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Haryana.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Sri Madhusudan Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SMSIMSR). It has been established by Sri Sathya Sai University for Human Excellence at Sathya Sai Grama, Muddenahalli, Chikkaballapur. Situated in a rural area and established with a vision of de-commercialising medical education and healthcare, SMSIMSR will provide medical education and quality medical care - completely free of cost - to all. The institute will start functioning from the academic year 2023.

PM to inaugurate Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Krishnarajapura Metro Line 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of Bangalore Metro and also undertake a ride in the metro.

In line with this, the 13.71 km stretch from Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro to Krishnarajapura Metro Line of Reach-1 extension project under Bangalore Metro Phase 2, will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister at Whitefield (Kadugodi) Metro Station. Built at a cost of around Rs 4250 crores, the inauguration of this metro line will provide a clean, safe, rapid and comfortable travel facility to commuters in Bengaluru, enhancing ease of mobility and reducing traffic congestion in the city.


Nitin Gadkari inaugurates and lays foundation stones of 21 NH projects in Ranchi 

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 21 projects of 532 km at a cost of more than Rs 9400 crore at Dhurva in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

The construction of 260 km 4-lane inter-corridor from Ranchi to Varanasi at a cost of 7000 crores, Ranchi to Varanasi can be reached in 5 hours. The 635 km, 4-lane Raipur-Dhanbad Economic Corridor will facilitate transportation of coal, steel, cement and other minerals.


Nitin Gadkari inaugurates and lays foundation stones of 10 NH projects in Jamshedpur 

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated and laid foundation stones of 10 National Highway projects of 220 km at Bishtupur, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand at a cost of Rs.3843 crore.

The construction of Jharkhand's first 4-lane double-decker elevated road from Kali Mandir to Baliguma on Ranchi-Jamshedpur road at a cost of 1876 crores, the journey of 45 minutes will be covered in 5 minutes.

Ranchi to Jamshedpur Inter Corridor will improve connectivity to West Bengal-Odisha. This corridor will bypass Ranchi city and connect Delhi-Kolkata Highway (NH-2) and East-West Corridor (NH-6), providing Jamshedpur-Kolkata direct connectivity.


RINL wins the national level Ispat Suraksha Puraskar 

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) Visakhapatnam received national level safety Awards "Ispat Suraksha Puraskar" during annual award function held at SSO Ranchi and organised by Joint Committee on Safety, Health & Environment in the Steel Industry' (JCSSI).

RINL Visakhapatnam also bagged Prestigious Award for "Zero Fatal Accident involving Contract Labour" for the year 2022.
