The fifth Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on Agriculture was held between India and South Africa on 26th August 2025 in virtual mode.

Officials from both countries emphasized that the meeting marks an important milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation in agriculture and allied sectors.
South Africa’s commitment to strengthening its valued partnership with India. South Africa’s strong interest in deepening cooperation in key areas such as agricultural mechanization, genome editing, and plant breeding technologies among others.

The India-South Africa 5th Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting was co-chaired by Ajeet Kumar Sahu, Joint Secretary (IC), Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfares, and Mr. Thapsana Molepo, Acting Director, International Trade Promotion, South Africa.
The meeting was also attended by senior officials from the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and the Ministry of External Affairs.

India and South Africa discussed key issues related to deepening collaboration between the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) of South Africa and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). The key areas of focus included knowledge exchange, joint research initiatives, capacity building, and market access issues in the 5th Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on Agriculture.
